If you know less than your competitors, you are immediately at an immense disadvantage, yet this is the reality faced by an overwhelming majority of the UK’s Black entrepreneurs. 15 months ago, BBI set out to address this seemingly intractable problem, by launching a transformative educational program with an important mission, to realise and convert the UK’s deep reservoirs of Black entrepreneurial talent, boosting the UK’s GDP by as much as £75bn, according to Coutts Private Bank. Black British Initiative MBA 30 achieved that goal! A full MBA is immensely powerful and is a qualification held by some of the most successful entrepreneurs globally including Elon Musk, Michael Bloomberg, Larry Page and Phil Knight, founder of Nike but can cost up to £100,000 and take 12 to 24 months to complete on a full-time basis. These barriers to entry make it prohibitive for at least 99% of the UK's Black population. The answer, democratising access to executive education. Collaborating with Baroness Doreen Lawrence OBE's SLDF BBI conceived the transformative MBA 30, validated, accredited and delivered by SOAS University of London and positively celebrating Stephen Lawrence’s legacy. With cohort six commencing on 13th January, MBA 30 has been a huge triumph, with SOAS’s professors equipping founders and micro business leaders with the key lessons and knowledge from a full MBA, to empower growth, development and scale. SOAS’s academic team are supported by ‘world class’ industry contributors, leading business experts, who ‘send the elevator back down’, by sharing insights; knowledge and details about how they operate their significant organisations, ensuring MBA 30 remains cutting edge. We've been sharing all the incredible moments at Black Entrepreneurs & Businesses of Canada Society (BEBC) over the past few days with you. As we conclude this journey, let's take a moment to look back at where it all began—from a dream to reality, and now, celebrating those who carried the day with their innovative ideas and hard-earned prizes. At our nationwide Black Pitch Contest, we rewarded remarkable Black entrepreneurs from Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. This achievement is monumental! Congratulations to all the participants and winners who have inspired us with their vision and perseverance. Competition was fierce, with over 230 contestants vying for the $25,000 top prize. More than 33,000 people participated in the public voting round, culminating in an exciting live pitch session by the top 5 finalists at the Black Business Summit in Vancouver. It was interesting to see a traction of over 200,000 unique views for your pitches which was simply fantastic! This event is a testament to our ongoing commitment to combat racial barriers to business funding. A huge congratulations to our incredible winners: Nanette Sene of Juno Technologies took home the first prize, and Walid BABA - MOUSSA, P. Eng. and Djalil Baba-Moussa, P. Eng. secured a surprise prize still in first place from Black Opportunity Fund. BOF additionally awarded $2500 to the other three contestants. Evans Osei of Work and Chill ,Stephane Beaulne of Komino, and Mwenda Dyck of @south central greens. We want to acknowledge these three other finalists who pitched amazing ideas that will make a significant impact in the industry and were able to take home at least $6500 each. Your courage and vision to change the world is a great example. To all the contestants who participated, there would be no summit without your brilliant business ideas and unwavering determination. For those who didn’t make it to the top 5, keep going! Your journey is just beginning, and we believe in your potential. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible. To our top five finalists, we applaud your hard work and dedication. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to see where your entrepreneurial journeys take you! We are now gearing up for next year, and we will let you know as soon as we have our dates. #BlackBusinessSummit #Entrepreneurship #DiversityInBusiness #Innovation #Community

For Black professionals, this era presents an unprecedented opportunity to step out of corporate America and into entrepreneurship. Here’s why now is the perfect time to make that transition: 1️⃣ The Digital Economy is Accessible Gone are the days when starting a business required massive capital or resources. With tools like social media, e-commerce platforms, and AI, you can launch and scale a business from anywhere. The barriers to entry are lower than ever, and the playing field is more level. 2️⃣ Your Unique Perspective is Valuable As a Black professional, you bring a unique lens to the table—one that’s often underrepresented in the market. Whether it’s through your cultural insights, lived experiences, or innovative ideas, your voice is needed. The digital world craves authenticity, and your story can resonate deeply with your audience. 3️⃣ Corporate America Doesn’t Define Your Worth While corporate roles can provide stability, they often come with limitations—glass ceilings, microaggressions, and a lack of representation in leadership. Entrepreneurship allows you to define your own worth, set your own rules, and create a legacy that aligns with your values. 4️⃣ The Rise of the Black Entrepreneurial Ecosystem From Black-owned venture capital firms to online communities and mentorship programs, the support system for Black entrepreneurs is growing. You’re not alone in this journey—there are networks and resources ready to help you succeed. 5️⃣ Flexibility and Freedom Building a business in the digital age means you can design a lifestyle that works for you. Whether it’s spending more time with family, traveling, or pursuing passion projects, entrepreneurship gives you the freedom to live life on your terms. Call to Action If you’ve been thinking about leaving corporate America to start your own venture, let this be your sign. The digital age is here, and it’s full of possibilities. Start small, leverage your skills, and take that first step toward building the business—and life—you deserve. You have the vision, the talent, and the power to create something extraordinary. The world is waiting for what you have to offer. An invaluable opportunity for those wanting to enhance their knowledge, professional development, and business prowess.
It’s been 4 years since I started working with The Tulsa Initiative. Over the span of those years, the team and I have aided in the development and growth of over 40 black owned small businesses. Through our Leadership and Entrepreneurship Academy, many of the scholars who participated in the program have reported significant amounts of growth in their customer base, revenue, and some have started the process of expanding into international markets. Why is this important you ask? Entrepreneurship in the black community is important because it contributes to the economy by creating jobs and providing new products or services, helps reduce the racial wealth gap, and they’re also more likely to hire Black and other often underserved employees, further helping to break down racial barriers and improve financial stability. Through Tulsa’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship Academy, BIPOC males between the ages of 18-26 are taken on a 13-week journey where they get to experience: - Weekly courses geared around the foundations of entrepreneurship (marketing, team development, pitching, brand design, promotional tactics, budgeting, finance, etc) - 1 on 1 conversations with established local business owners -Weekly sessions with world-renowned business leaders from companies such as Facebook, Amazon, etc. -Field trips to nationwide headquarters of top companies to chat 1 on 1 with key executives -Personal mentoring sessions with our highly skilled coaches -An opportunity to pitch their business or brand at Tulsa’s annual Gala for an opportunity of being provided funding -A FREE LLC filing sponsored by the Tulsa Initiative. Did I mention it was free?! So do me a favor, spread the word! We are looking for some driven males who are ready to be the captain of their own fate. We are prepared to give them the tools they need to be successful, all they have to do is receive them. See the link below for the application! https://lnkd.in/ezvQpgSu
