I understand that innovation is more than just a series of experiments. But it's so interesting to see how much we've drifted away from the true essence of innovation - #experimentation.
Nowadays, everyone defines innovation in so many different ways that it seems to have lost its core meaning. We've become focused on details, extreme cases, and exceptional individuals, forgetting the importance of experimentation.
If you were to ask ten random companies how they test their ideas or how they handle failed hypotheses, you'd be surprised that many struggle to give a clear answer.
Why is that?
Well, I believe, it's because is so incredibly uncomfortable. Having your ideas scrutinized and questioned can be so demoralizing. Nobody wants to hear that their idea isn't good or that their project isn't useful. It's natural to want to avoid criticism and rejection. And when it comes to admitting failure and starting over, it takes a lot of resilience. Not everyone is equipped to handle setbacks and keep trying. Who wants to go to their boss and say: "we tried, it failed, we have to do it in a different way."
So, here we are, defining innovation in a million ways, and avoiding all costs to test our ideas.
