As I wrap up the final day at Ascend Las Vegas , I’m taking away more than just knowledge and insights; I’ve gained new friendships! #Community means different things to different people—whether it’s leveraging it for job opportunities, hanging out with friends, or expanding your network. For me, it serves as a reminder that there was someone for me to help me get where I’m ; and it’s my responsibility to #PayItForward - to #mentor the next generation navigating careers in the US, sharing both the opportunities and challenges I’ve faced. There was a lot of emphasis on the term “diveristy” and the importance of overcoming the checklist bias sometimes that can be associated to it. It’s so important to zoom out and focus on it as bringing together people with unique experiences, ideas, perspectives, cultures, and values. This approach helps eliminate potential biases associated to it. However, it all starts with building competence at its core A developing skills and knowledge is essential to fully benefit from diverse communities. This was a great panel event. Honest accounts of the highs and lows of juggling parenting with career progression, as well as tips to manage day-to-day. Key takeaways for me included: 🕵️Get to know your team - don't assume that just because someone is a parent that their circumstances will be the same as other parents in your team. 👨🏾🍼Parent out loud - being honest (and sometimes vulnerable) about your responsibilities at home can help you feel you can be yourself at work. Spending less energy on hiding what's happening in your personal life can help you to focus more on working efficiently and effectively. 🎯 Flexibility and empathy is key - lead with empathy and compassion to get the best out of people. Look after your people and your people will smash their goals/targets. It's great to know that our senior leaders are human and that they're willing to be brave and share their experiences so that the rest of us can benefit. We are excited by the prospect of joining fellow purpose driven businesses in a global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.    We are entering 'B Corp Month' having completed Evalution stage and are taking steps towards becoming B Corp certified. However, B Corp Certification isn’t a destination. It’s an invitation to join the journey to better business. B Corp Certification designates that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors ranging from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials.
