Few weeks ago I read a post here about work-life balance and its relation with the typical interview question “tell me about yourself” from Stephen Sennett. This post talks about how we left ourselves get trapped in the rush of building a career and become nothing but people without not other interests than profesional ones. It resonated with me because exactly 6 months ago I went through a very rough time when my personal life, work and other external elements were getting unmanageable and for the first time in my career I decided to stop and prioritise my health and my loved ones. After making many changes I discovered the benefits of prioritising myself. I started being more considerate with my sleeping habits, find ways to eat healthier without torture and I added one hour of exercise to my day. Slowly the routine was sinking in and I began to notice changes in my mood, energy levels and concentration. Coming back to work felt seen less. The exercise became the therapy of the day and I was feeling much better after a every workout session. The more I get involved I realised I was getting part of a new community, a bunch of welcoming people with the same goal: one our of me time. Today after being through 3 months of consistent exercise, completed a challenge at the gym (finished in the top 5 among 70 people participating) and improve my health overall. I realised that I am more than my career and prioritising other aspects of life is as important as my professional goals. Being healthy and happy is priceless!! And if I would get someone asking me now “Tell me about yourself”: I’ll describe everything I do outside work first: I’m a gamer, a good friend, a cook, a guncle, a teacher, a dancer, a runner, a bad singer and… I am also developing a career in IT. We are all people with interests that can be nurtured in many ways. We can take pride of everything we do, not just the career path we follow. If you could too: What are you doing to keep your work life balance? PD: Thanks BFT Heidelberg! Joining this community has been amazing!! #worklifebalance #healthyhabits #personaldevelopment #exercising #priorities

Congratulation! What a wonderful post. We are all more than our professional selves and this is a very practical and optimistic message. I also (try) to put my health first- 3 days at the gym with a trainer. And I book it in during the day cause earlier mornings and late afternoons can be busy with work, it also gives me more energy on those days (I'll admit this is easier given I'm self employed). My next step is better sleep habit (even though it's so tempting to read tomorrow's news tonight!)
