Dear Volunteers, You are truly appreciated always but here are a few things to take into consideration. We understand that volunteering is a selfless act but remembering, what is worth doing; is worth doing well. When on the field, do well to drop any assumed/borrowed or inborn “ajeboism”, you are out to work, you are most likely to get dirty on the field. - you need to drop your phones and do the needful. Phones can be distracting. Remember, the outreach or project is just for few hours. You can do it! There will always be time to take pictures and make videos. - if you’re a first timer, on getting to a location for an outreach, mix up with others. Ask questions, know where and how to fit in. Get involved. It’s all for impact. - DRESS APPROPRIATELY (read this over again). Thank you! Another important fact to put into consideration, - You may be visiting places that will provoke your emotions, PLEASE, control your tear glands. We understand empathy but we need to encourage those we are visiting. So no tears baby girl. Hug it out 🤗 We love you and we appreciate every second you sacrifice to make great change and impact. It was during this uncertain time that my curiosity led me to a simple banner that asked, "Are you a good listener?" My response was twofold: a resounding "Yes" from within and a physical leaning forward, a sign of eagerness that I've learned to trust. That moment marked the beginning of my journey as a Lifeline Telephone Crisis Supporter—a role I've cherished and committed to weekly ever since. Volunteering isn't just about giving; it's about being an active, caring member of your community. For me, it has been an enriching experience that not only helped me hone my listening skills but also deepened my connection with those around me, adding immense meaning to my life. This Volunteers Week, I encourage you to explore how you might also contribute. Whether it's listening, teaching, building, or sharing; your skills and time can make a profound difference. I've been fortunate to have had so many experiences in my volunteering roles. I've stumbled, grown, learned a damn lot and have seen the real impact that volunteers can have. I wouldn't have it any other way. Volunteering is a choice, but it is such a fulfilling choice. Friends and bonds are made. Smiles are shared. Positive change is made. My advice: Volunteer for inclusion. Volunteer for the future. Volunteer for yourself. My ask of employers: Make a conscious effort to carve out time for employees to volunteer - individually and as a company in the sector/community around you. Inspire them. Empower them.
