Thanks for sharing this strategy on a key link to Northland region. I’ve read that the #NorthlandExpressway is expected to significantly impact the region by boosting the GDP by $1.2 billion a year, according to a report. This development will not only enhance economic benefits for New Zealand but also deliver substantial direct economic benefits to Northland every year. What’s your outlook on development Julian Smith

Last night I chaired a meeting of the Communities & Transport scrutiny committee, where we discussed a range of topics including: 📝 𝗩𝗖𝗙𝗦𝗘 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀: Reviewing the impact and future plans for our Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise sector, focusing on investment, capacity building, and fostering community power. 📊 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗣𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: Exploring the latest initiatives to support low-income households, including a new school uniform offer and the adoption of the socio-economic duty, which Stockport Labour have been pushing for. ❄️ 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: Reviewing the current strategy and ensuring that our areas are adequately prepared for severe winter weather. 🛣️ 𝗔𝟲 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆𝘀: Delving into plans to invest in improvements to the A6 corridor, focusing on improving bus journey times and crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists. 🚋 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆: Discussing the future of public transportation in our region and how we can improve connectivity by investing in new and improved rapid transit, including securing Metrolink to Stockport. Most our time was focused on discussing the A6 corridor scheme, with the debate concentrating on whether the plans go far enough to encourage a real modal shift towards active travel and proactively contribute to the council's aim to become carbon neutral by 2038. A set of recommendations have been proposed by the committee to ask the Cabinet Member to consider what further measures can be applied during the development of the detailed design stage to ensure the scheme does as much as possible to promote and encourage a shift towards active travel. This is very much the beginning of the committee's work on this, with the topic of cycling infrastructure being the subject of our annual scrutiny review.

🏗️ Exciting News for UK Planning! 🏗️ Yesterday, the Prime Minister committed to fast-tracking the development consent order decisions on 150 major infrastructure schemes. This is a significant move to turbocharge economic growth across the country. Keir Starmer’s vision of a ‘mission-led Government’ includes planning reforms that will be pro-growth and pro-infrastructure—a huge win for our industry. However, while speeding up approvals is great, there’s one pressing issue: Are our networks ready for all the new connections? ⚡ Developers are increasingly facing delays not just in planning, but in securing power for their projects. Here at Connections2Energy, we’re staying ahead of the curve. Our Commercial Director, Courtney Prestage, recently addressed this issue at the Built Environment Conference and has been mentioned in the Lancashire Business View. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eWR_fcpD Our advice? The Parks, Sydney’s Parkland Councils was pleased to see many of its recommendations and those of its member Councils recognised and adopted in the NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into “Current and Future Transport Needs in Western Sydney.” This important Report confirmed what we have been saying for years and we look forward to the Government now taking action on its Findings and Recommendations. We are heartened to see that among the 20 recommendations of the report, our continued calls for implementation of the City Deal commitments of a North-South rail line from St Marys through to Macarthur, with a connection to Leppington, and for a comprehensive rapid bus system were recognised as needing prioritisation. The evidence provided to the Inquiry by our Mayoral Forum Chair, Dr George Greiss and Chair of our General Managers Committee, Mr Ben Taylor, as well as many other Mayors and General Managers of our eight member councils demonstrates the depth of knowledge and understanding of the key issues that we have and we were encouraged to see this identified in Finding 2: “Local councils are experts in the public transport needs of their communities..” As the report highlighted there can be no doubt that the people of our region deserve better and a more equitable provision of public transport. We remain hopeful that this report will help the Government to take the necessary steps to achieve this. Stevie Barnett

Advocacy News: The Ontario Chamber of Commerce has published a letter to the Honourable Anita Anand, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Transport, in support of the High-Frequency Rail project in Ontario. The project, as currently planned, will offer over 1000km of brand-new rail infrastructure along the Toronto-Quebec corridor allowing faster and more frequent rail service. By moving passenger services to dedicated tracks, the new trains will no longer be significantly delayed by freight trains that have priority on our current rail infrastructure. 🚌 We’ve published a new report that highlights how strengthened Enhanced Partnerships can work as a successful model of bus provision across the wider south east region. Within the report are recommendations for the government to help facilitate the bus revolution – one of the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom's five transport priorities. The report makes clear that Enhanced Partnerships have shown they are a valid model for improving services, but also highlights: - the complexity of government guidance for Enhanced Partnerships - the need long-term funding commitments - greater support is required for rural areas - the alignment of wider policy - the need for increased knowledge sharing and improving public perception of buses to help encourage more people to choose the bus. LGA has submitted key recommendations on behalf of members to the State's Transport Strategy, shaping the 30-year vision for the state’s transport network. Our latest submission highlights several areas, including the need for integrated planning for growth, community wellbeing and priority funding for the Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass. A genuine and effective bypass would remove heavy road freight off the South Eastern Freeway and off suburban streets. Councils stand united calling for funding for the bypass as a must-do priority to make our roads safer, reduce congestion and future-proof freight productivity into the future. An idea whose time has come; the passenger numbers are there, the supporting public sector transport network is there (and actively being further upgraded) and energy and vessel developments are now at a point where a 100% sustainable, resilient, cost-effective, high-quality and comfortable service can be achieved. Great to see this being highlighted and promoted.
While improvements in transport infrastructure across East Cork are at the forefront of local thought, other innovative options for the increased connectivity and frequency of public transport routes must be explored. A feasibility study should be conducted into the possibility of creating a new passenger ferry service linking Cork Harbour. I look forward to working on the further development of such a proposal should I be fortunate enough to be elected on 29 November. Please check out my video on why such a service would be transformative not only for the harbour but for Cork County. To read more visit: https://lnkd.in/gFt-FJHC
