#industrynews MOL Group recently inaugurated its new Százhalombatta plant, which produces approximately 1,600 tonnes of clean, carbon-neutral green hydrogen annually using a 10-megawatt electrolysis unit developed by Plug Power. Plug Power's electrolysis technology harnesses electricity from renewable sources to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen. This process generates no harmful by-products, and the plant produces 8-9 tonnes of pure oxygen for every tonne of hydrogen created. Plug Power has provided MOL with innovative and dependable technology, with hydrogen generators optimized for pure hydrogen production, boasting nearly 50 years of operational experience. 90% of hydrogen goes to industry More than 90 % of the world’s #hydrogen is used for just three industrial applications: ➡ oil refining ➡ production of methanol used by fuel blenders ➡ manufacture of ammonia for fertilisers and chemicals. While hydrogen can be used for other purposes such as powering cars, storing energy or heating homes, other technologies offer cheaper and more efficient solutions. What makes 8RH2 stand out from other clean hydrogen solutions? “Currently, most conventional low-carbon hydrogen production methods are inefficient, expensive or carbon intensive,” says Steve Milward, COO at 8 Rivers. For this reason, many producers find it environmentally AND economically difficult to upgrade their hydrogen production to low-carbon methods. In contrast, 8RH2 achieves over 99% carbon capture at lower costs and higher energy efficiency than traditional “blue” hydrogen technologies.
