Floating through the memories of an incredible Canada Day. 🍁 Our AlumaSafway Sarnia branch celebrated in style with our very own Canada Day Parade float. Team members marched from Lakeshore Road to Canatara Park, handing out 2,000 Canada Day stickers and enjoying the beautiful weather along the way. We were especially proud to receive the award for Most Colourful Float! Thank you, Jason Emery, for organizing this year’s float and bringing the team together for an unforgettable day. Bonne fête du Canada! #AtWorkForYou #CanadaDay #BonneFeteDuCanada #SarniaON

What did Canada Day used to be known as pre-1983? Today, July 1st, marks the anniversary of Canada’s confederation in 1867 when three British colonies - Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada (later to become Ontario and Quebec) - united to form the 'Dominion of Canada'. Originally called ‘Dominion Day’, the holiday was renamed as ‘Canada Day’ in 1982, seen as a modern shift away from colonial-era terminology. The interesting difference between a ‘colony’ and a ‘dominion’ is that the latter has attained a degree of self-governance whilst remaining loyal - in this instance - to the ethos of the British family, or Crown. Functions of the Crown in the Dominions are not undertaken personally by the sovereign but by a governor-general, appointed by the sovereign (Oxford University Press). Mary Simon is the current governor general of Canada, and is the first Indigenous appointment to the role. She became the 30th governor general of Canada on 26th July 2021. CELEBRATIONS As with many celebrations around the world, fireworks play a central role, with people gathering in parks and waterfronts across the country to see the night skies light up. Many Canadians dress in the national colours of red & white, attending parties and cultural activities, which may include historical reenactments (Halifax) or Indigenous ceremonies (Winnipeg). According to website ‘Ramblyn Jazz’, the day brings mixed feelings amongst Indigenous cultures, due to historical injustices. Though Indigenous communities frequently do use the day to showcase their cultures and contributions to Canadian life. In Montreal, where I spent two-years, this year’s main event will be a family focussed affair in the Old Port of Montreal, which is a fun and vibrant part of the city, full of bars, restaurants and a zip wire for those feeling more daring. In addition to the main celebrations at the Old Port, various Montreal neighbourhoods organise their own Canada Day events. For example, Pierrefonds-Roxboro on the opposite shore of Montreal island, hosts a parade, amusement park, and fireworks. Here are some interesting facts about Canada Day: 1. **Birth of a Nation**: Canada Day marks the anniversary of the confederation of Canada on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act (now known as the Constitution Act) came into effect, uniting the colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada (which became Ontario and Quebec). 2. **Originally Called Dominion Day**: The holiday was originally called Dominion Day until it was renamed Canada Day in 1982, following the passage of the Canada Act which gave Canada full sovereignty from the United Kingdom. 3. **Nationwide Celebrations**: Canada Day is celebrated with various events and activities across the country, including parades, fireworks, concerts, and barbecues. The largest celebration is held in Ottawa, the capital city, featuring performances, cultural displays, and a massive fireworks show.

Canada Day is a national holiday celebrating the country's independence from Great Britain in 1867. The new nation, still loyal to Great Britain, was called the Dominion of Canada and consisted of only four provinces ((Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec). Now, there are 10 provinces and 3 territories. Thought I would share some fun facts. • Canada is the second-largest country in the world. • One of the longest highways in the world is in Canada. • Churchill, Manitoba, is the "Polar Bear Capital of the World." • Canada crosses six time zones. • Canada has the longest coastline of any country. • Canada is the world's largest producer of maple syrup. • Canadian national sports are Lacrosse and Hockey • The name "Canada" has indigenous roots. It comes from the word kanata, meaning "village" or "settlement • The beaver is Canada's national animal. Canada is rich in wildlife like grizzly bears, moose, cougars, elk & black bears • The telephone & basketball was invented in Canada. Wishing you all a Happy Canada day from Anjuna Airlines Solutions.

Happy Civic Holiday from all of us at TPI Companies! 🌞⛱️ The August long weekend is celebrated across Canada (but not for all provinces & territories), although it is known by different names and has varying significance in different provinces and territories. Here are some fun facts about this holiday weekend in Canada: 1. Multiple Names: While commonly referred to as Civic Holiday, the name varies across Canada. In Winnipeg it is known as Terry Fox Day; in Alberta, it's Heritage Day; in Nova Scotia, it is known as Natal Day (marking the founding of the Halifax-Dartmouth area); and in Nunavut, it’s Nunavut Day. 2. Provincial and Territorial Differences: The holiday is not uniformly recognized across all provinces and territories. Sadly Quebec, the Yukon, Newfoundland and Labrador do not observe the holiday. 3. Historical Celebrations: The origins of the Civic Holiday can be traced back to the 19th century, aimed at giving workers a break during the summer months. It was seen as a way to provide a respite from the hot summer weather. 4. Local Festivities: Many regions host local festivals, parades, concerts, and fireworks during the long weekend. For those who celebrate, we hope you have a relaxing and safe long weekend! #TPI #TPICompanies #PatchTechStaffing #Permasearch #Truckker #Workker
