🌍 Addressing Leishmaniasis: A Call to Action for Vision 2030 🌍 Leishmaniasis, a parasitic disease transmitted by sandflies, has wreaked havoc in many regions, leading to significant health crises across Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, and beyond. With outbreaks increasing in severity both in humans and animals, the urgent need for effective measures has never been clearer. In Sub-Saharan Africa, we’ve seen devastating impacts on both human and animal populations. Southern Africa and North Africa are grappling with rising cases, affecting vulnerable communities and livestock alike. The disease not only causes health issues but also disrupts local economies and food security. Measures in Place: 1. Vector Control: Initiatives such as insecticide-treated nets, and indoor residual spraying have been implemented to reduce sandfly populations. 2. Community Awareness: Education campaigns are vital to inform communities about prevention and early detection. 3. Surveillance Systems: Enhanced monitoring of outbreaks helps in timely interventions and resource allocation. 4. Research & Development: Collaborative efforts are underway to develop effective vaccines and treatments. This requires a coordinated approach involving governments, NGOs, and local communities. By investing in health infrastructure and sustainable practices, we can mitigate the impact of this disease on our people and animals. 🌱 Let’s unite in our efforts to combat leishmaniasis and build a healthier future for all. Together, we can turn the tide against this disastrous disease! 💪 #Leishmaniasis #HealthForAll #Vision2030 #PublicHealth #SustainableDevelopment #AfricaHealth #OneHealth

Falkiye Consulting is excited to share the recent research on "Factors associated with sanitation practices preventing diarrhea at household level in Mogadishu, Somalia". This study revealed that there is a strong association between sanitation practices at the household level and the occurrence of diarrhea in children under five. This is common in Sub-Saharan African countries. This study shows significant highlights for the availability of sanitation facilities at IDPs and host communities to protect public health. 🚨New #blog🚨 Most recent, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases originate in animals and spread into people. Also known as #zoonotic diseases, they continue to remain a threat to human health and prosperity. Across Central Asia, zoonotic diseases continue to heavily impact agriculture and societal well-being. In order to address this and take measures to reduce their impacts, the ‘One Health in nature conservation in Central Asia’ initiative, was officially launched at the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) #COP14, with it’s official kick-off meetings taking place last week, and led by IUCN. The initiative aims to strengthen protected and conserved areas and reduce human and #wildlife interactions which in turn, would prevent the emergence and spread of zoonotic diseases. 🌏 🐾 💪 In our latest blog, we speak to officers Brett Wilson and Emily Howland from UNEP-WCMC’s Protected Planet initiative about the their hopes from the project and how stronger #ProtectedAreas could pave the way for better #health outcomes for wildlife and people. We discuss: 🔸 The purpose of the One Health in Central Asia initiative 🔸 The link between protected areas and human health 🔸 Ambitions of governments in Central Asia towards the initiative 🔸 UNEP-WCMC’s role and involvement in the initiative Read the full conversation with our experts here: https://bit.ly/3MApG3W #ProtectedAreas #conservation #OneHealth #Health #ForNature

Are you prepared for emergency? Scientists estimate that the probability of a future outbreak of infection with a pathogen that subsequently spreads beyond national borders is "high" for us. In order to recognise and contain this risk from the outset, the #OneHealth 🌏 approach is groundbreaking - the joint approach of the three areas of environmental, human and animal health 👩🌾 🌳 🐒 . 🚀 The "Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN)" has now published a brandnew certificate course for #PandemicPreparedness with a One Health approach by the East African Community. The interdisciplinary #course is aimed at key personnel and future experts in pandemic preparedness and #management and was supported with technical advisery by the Global Programme Pandemic Preparedness and Response, One Health of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. 📢 The importance of this course is underlined by past threats and lessons learned, e.g. the 2016 outbreak of #Ebola in #WestAfrica, which demonstrated that a multi-sectoral response, including resource mobilisation and coordination, is critical to success. 🔵 Course description: https://bit.ly/3LdYabS ⚫ Course manual: https://lnkd.in/eF5jNtfX
