Green energy finance specialist, Trenton Allen from Sustainable Capital Advisors speaks to Sustainable Views about why climate resilience investment should be apolitical. “If you ask a policymaker whether they would like to improve water quality in their community, reduce energy costs or increase the ability of local buildings to withstand storms, no one is going to say no,” he says. Mott MacDonald’s Carbon Crunch events always present a great opportunity to hear and discuss industry-leading responses to climate change with our outstanding partners and clients. Next week, our UK Carbon Crunch will focus on what it means to think beyond #NetZero, so that action on #ClimateChange achieves the most significant benefits possible for people and the #environment we all share. This year, we’ll be hosting our UK event in #Manchester for the first time. I'm looking forward to hearing from Greater Manchester’s Mayor, Andy Burnham on how delivering decarbonisation and can create widespread opportunities for the region. It'll also be great to host some sessions with representatives from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, National Highways, the Environment Agency and Anglian Water. As I wrote about with Julia Baker earlier this year (https://lnkd.in/eZFgeaAp) connected thinking on co-benefits is key. Improving the environment by achieving biodiversity net gain requirements can also enable carbon sequestration and achieve better social outcomes. There is inherent alignment. In the coming months, we’re holding Carbon Crunches in more countries across the world than ever before, including the #UAE, #NewZealand and #Australia. While the needs of every community and place are different, Carbon Crunch is all about the shared need to listen to challenges and respond with integrated excellence.

🌍 Exciting Week at London Climate Action Week! 🌍 I had the pleasure of joining a fantastic panel of speakers at my first London Climate Action Week, hosted by Fleet Street Quarter, to discuss whether London can still be a hub for the net zero global economy. 🚀 Our discussions highlighted a recurring theme: the UK has immense potential to lead and benefit from transformation, innovation, and decarbonisation. However, to truly unlock this opportunity, we need consistent policy-making and clear political messaging to instill confidence in investors, businesses, and consumers. Key takeaways from our panel with Alison Gowman CBE, Tessa F., and Gavin Starks: 1. The insurance industry plays a crucial role in de-risking investment in climate solutions and adaptation. 2. Skills development is vital for fostering new industries, spreading the benefits of decarbonisation geographically, and building capacity within existing companies. 3. SMEs are essential to UK Plc's supply chains, and must be better supported in their emissions reporting. Let's invest in our future by enabling major investments in energy, food, transport, industry, and education. The time to act is now! 🌱💼 #LCAW2024 #NetZero #SustainableFuture #Innovation #PolicyMatters #InvestInChange Photo Jack Ladenburg

Utility Regulation in a Changing World: Lessons from the U.S. and Canada Dive into the good, the bad, and the ugly of utility regulation in North America. As climate and equity mandates in states and provinces advance, these policies run headlong into the evolving role of the public utility regulator and utilities’ business models. This webinar explored what is being done to bring utility regulation into the 21st century, with examples from across the U.S. and Canada and an emphasis on the important role of electrification. You may find this interesting Tony Frisone, Alvin Waters, and Marc Strassman. Presented by Dylan Heerema with Ecotrust Canada, Kristin George Bagdanov with the Building Decarbonization Coalition, and Kate Harland with the Canadian Climate Institute
