About us

Circular Ecology work with organisations to help them become more sustainable. They are based in the UK but work with clients around the world. Their work includes carbon offsetting, resource efficiency, life cycle assessment (LCA), carbon & water footprinting, circular economy and general environmental sustainability. For materials, products, buildings, food, services, textiles, organisations and supply chains. - Carbon offsetting - Carbon neutral, net zero carbon - Environment - Sustainability - Circular economy - Carbon footprinting - Water footprinting - Embodied energy and carbon assessment - Life cycle assessment (LCA) - Resource efficiency assessment - Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) - Training

COP29: Crucial Moment For Business To Accelerate Global Climate Action. World leaders gather for COP29 in Baku next month and the stakes could not be higher. Climate change is no longer an abstract issue confined to future projections - it is hitting home now. Extreme weather events—super-charged storms, wildfires, floods, unprecedented droughts—are becoming more frequent and more destructive, impacting not just the environment but economies, societies, and businesses across the globe. The risks are real, and they are escalating. https://zurl.co/PJAl

Sliver of cool surface water 2mm deep helps oceans absorb CO2, say scientists. Subtle temperature difference between ‘ocean skin’ and water beneath found to drive more CO2 absorption. Daniel Ford, a research fellow at the University of Exeter, said: “With the Cop29 climate change conference taking place next month, this work highlights the importance of the oceans, but it should also help us improve the global carbon assessments that are used to guide emission reductions.” https://zurl.co/VW1D

US power grid added battery equivalent of 20 nuclear reactors in past four years. Pace of growth helps maintain renewable energy when weather conditions interfere with wind and solar. The US is now adding utility-scale batteries at a dizzying pace, having installed more than 20 gigawatts of battery capacity to the electric grid, with 5GW of this occurring just in the first seven months of this year, according to the federal Energy Information Administration (EIA). https://zurl.co/fFX5

More than 1,000 homes linked to £20bn green energy grid expected to be built in Highlands. SSEN Transmission, a subsidiary of the electricity firm SSE, has signed a deal with local councils and housing associations in the Highlands to fund at least 1,000 new properties as well as the refurbishment of existing, unoccupied ones. https://zurl.co/Uh6p

Greenhouse gas emissions, UK: provisional estimates, 2023. Measuring the air emissions generated by UK economic activities. Provisional 2023 UK greenhouse gas emissions on a residence basis decreased by 3.8% on 2022, having increased 1.2% in 2022. UK emissions were 487 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (Mt CO2e) in 2023 (provisional), 0.3% below emissions in 2020 during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The energy sector saw the largest decrease of all industries, with emissions falling 15.4% to 70 Mt CO2e. https://zurl.co/mc9r

Recording-breaking carbon emissions in 2023 could be a sign that nature's carbon removal systems are failing, a study awaiting peer-review warns. With last year's atmospheric CO2 growth going hand-in-hand with record heat, an international team of researchers found high temperatures are likely to have "had a strong negative impact" on the ability of land-based ecosystems to soak up carbon. https://zurl.co/ilxk
