What’s my WHY⁉️ In 2018 I volunteered at a Veterans homeless Stand Down, and ran into a person I was stationed with 12 years earlier…unfortunately they were enrolled in HUDVASH and weren’t one of the other volunteers.
Follow up to my earlier post. Even though the job fair is virtual, the principles still apply as if it were brick and mortar. In the comments, is a great article by SULTAN CAMP that will help you avoid those common pitfalls.

As a career, or pursuit of study, financial services and planning, should be considered, strongly. No doubt, it takes aptitude and attitude, to make a go of it in the financial services profession. But. Such a career can also afford you a certain level of independence, and latitude, not to mention performance-based earnings, that should not be dismissed out of hand. At the very least, gaining, or improving, one's personal knowledge base on financial planning issues is incredibly helpful. And then, the prospect of being able to offer others, well-researched, well-presented, recommendations, that can help secure, or at least solidify, their financial future, can turn a job, into a vocation, highly valued.
A big thank you to Seneca Polytechnic for having Advocis Toronto and our Communications Chair Jeffrey Yang at their Financial Services Career Fair yesterday! 🙏 It was humbling to connect with so many talented students. Job faires are always a great way to meet representatives from a company you want to work for. How to make a job fair successful for you? ✔️ Do your homework: find out which companies are going to be present there; make a list of those to your interest, let’s say five. ✔️ Research current or recent openings at those five. Check out their websites and social media. Prepare some questions in advance. ✔️ Prepare a short intro 2-3 sentences about yourself. For example: I am Olena, I am from Ukraine. I used to work as a fundraiser, now I am looking for office entry level positions. I have administrative experience too. Such intro landed me two job interviews back in Aug-Sep 2022, at one of Calgary‘s jobfaires. My clients got hired on the spot for a caregiver and cooks positions (not always happens, but it does). ✔️ Ask for contacts, business cards. Follow up with emails one or two days after the event. Happy to answer your questions in comments.
