We want to extend a big thank you to Nick, the manager at Crown Decorating Centres in Orpington, for generously donating paint and decorating supplies. Thanks to this support, we're able to refresh our Station Road Training Centre just in time for our new starters in September. We're also excited to give our meeting room at Rutland House, as well as the hall and toilets at Cotmandene Day Opportunities Scheme, a fresh coat of paint. We're truly grateful for the support of local businesses in helping us create a welcoming environment for everyone.

UPDATED 08/21/2024: We want to thank the amazing community for their support, please keep sharing and let's gather all the equipment and items we need to get Closet Share up and running. Closet Share is a community-focused program dedicated to collecting local clothing donations, washing and sorting them into tiers, and cataloging them on an online store for community members to access. We provide affordable clothing solutions through a tiered system, with Tier 1 offering free clothing for low-income families and organizations, and Tier 2 allowing the broader community to purchase items at low costs. Additionally, our Boxes of Rags program repurposes unusable textiles to prevent them from ending up in landfills, contributing to environmental sustainability. We are excited to announce that we have recently leased a warehouse to expand our operations. Unfortunately, we did not receive the government funding we applied for, and the warehouse requires some renovations to get it functioning for our program. We need various supplies, and if you have any items that you would be interested in donating to Closet Share, we would greatly appreciate it. We are also always looking for volunteers to help with the growth and building of Closet Share's warehouse. Your support can make a significant difference in our community! • Shelving • Laundry Consumables • White Boards • Electrical • Plumbing • Repair of washers and Dryers • Racking for Hanging Clothes (2x4’s and poles would work) You can reach out to Melissa at 249-878-7513 or info@closetshare.ca if you have any questions or would like to donate any of the above items or even volunteer some time to our great cause. #Volunteers #volunteer #sudbury #sudburyontario #nonprofit #MakeADifference #makeanimpact

As part of our commitment to supporting the Neilcott team, we are helping staff develop their own skills and knowledge around the importance of mental health, and have encouraged our team to undertake the valuable Mental Health Awareness Course, provided by the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity. Thank you to all that have taken part and to those that have signed up for the Lighthouse Charity's Suicide Awareness Training Course, taking place over the next few weeks. We are big advocators of making wellbeing support more visible within the construction industry, and are eager to reinforce our workforce with the skills that they need to help themselves, and their colleagues. Training covers signs to look out for to know when others are struggling, coping techniques, ways to support yourself and others and steps to move forward. We encourage everyone within the construction industry to educate themselves around the importance of mental wellbeing, remain alert and recognise when others are struggling. In a world where workers in construction have a suicide rate of 3.7x higher than the national average, it is more important than ever. There are still many slots available for The Lighthouse Charity's next training course on Suicide Awareness, book your spot now. #Neilcott #Construction #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthTraining #LighthouseCharity #SuicideAwareness #MentalWellbeing

Constantly in awe of what our restore service does. This is enabling and empowering in action.
We are proud to announce that Stonepillow Restore has been nominated and shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Community’ award at Chichester Chamber of Commerce & Industry's Chichester & Bognor Business Awards 2024. Our Restore enterprise offers those furthest from the job market; including homeless clients, ex-offenders, and individuals with learning disabilities; volunteering opportunities to learn new skills that will make a positive impact and help them with their future career opportunities. Our Restore teams serve the local community with the offering of two retail outlets in Bognor Regis & Chichester selling low priced furniture, white goods and clothes, helping our community with the cost-of-living crisis, saving items from landfill and providing an income for the charity. All profits generated go back to serve the community. We can’t wait to join many other amazing local businesses and organisations for the awards ceremony which takes place at Avisford Hotel on Friday 14th June. #Community #Business #Charity #WestSussex #Homelessness

Ride report on the Horribly Hilly Hundreds 94 miles, 8,100 feet elevation gain, 3700 Calories burned. 7 hours riding time. Goals achieved: 1) 150 km completed. I skipped 10 miles of the route including 3 climbs. So I did not do their full '150' which was 104 miles (167 km). My initial goal was 100 km, so riding the longer route and completing 150 km was win for me. 2) I did not walk up any of the climbs. I did have to stop and take a few 2-3 minute breathers on the steepest parts of the last two climbs. These were at about 15%. A very difficult finish. 3) This was the biggest elevation gain ride I have done in 15 years. Notes: 1) The 33 x 36 gear was sufficient, but several times I was shifting and hoping for the 44 tooth cog that I did not have. My guess is that no matter what gear I had, I would have always wanted one bigger. 2) Modern technology was very important for me on this ride. I really needed it to gauge my effort, manage my pace, and know to back off on some early climbs to save my legs for the later hills. If you've read this far, thank you. Please consider donating to my Bike MS fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis. That happens this coming weekend. My legs should recover by then: https://lnkd.in/gPvFc5YD
The picture is of the rear cassette I will be using for this Saturday's ride. The Horribly Hilly Hundreds is an annual fundraiser for the Friends of Blue Mound State Park. I first did this ride 15 years ago because someone thought it would be 'fun' to design a ride in Wisconsin with 10,000 feet of climbing in 100 miles (it took 104). The hills are short but steep. Coming from a flat part of the state, these will be much more challenging than my local Mt Overpass. Thus the pie plate sized rear cassette cog. The ride design has changed in recent years and there are rides of 100, 150, and 200 km. Me? I'll be happy to finish the 150. While not a training ride for Bike MS Tour de Farms, it's how I decided to spend my 'free' weekend before it. Still on the fence about riding or donating? It's not too late to join or donate: https://lnkd.in/gPvFc5YD
