The fourth session of negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty (INC-4) concluded late last month in Canada. This session placed special emphasis on the entire lifecycle of plastics, from production to disposal. This expanded focus suggests that future regulations might encompass not just downstream waste management but also a science-based, full lifecycle approach. The aim is to establish a circular economy model for plastics, promoting recycling, reuse, and remanufacturing systems, with the goal of reducing plastic pollution to zero by 2040.
In recent years, various countries have imposed taxes on single-use or non-recyclable plastic products. For instance, the UK has introduced a tax on plastic packaging that does not contain at least 30% recycled plastic. Recognizing the global demand for materials that support a circular economy, LCY has developed the Circular Polypropylene solution. This initiative is designed to meet market demands and fulfill our sustainability objectives by leveraging collaborations with brands and third-party recycling companies to create high-quality circular economy materials.
Our advanced Circular Polypropylene materials deliver consistent quality with specified physical properties and can be customized to meet specific requirements. These materials can incorporate up to 50% recycled PP, resulting in approximately 30% lower carbon emissions compared to virgin materials. They have already received international certifications such as #GRS and #TUV.
We firmly believes in reimagining science for a thriving tomorrow. LCY continues to deepen its collaborations with brands and recyclers, offering innovative polypropylene-based specialty material solutions. Our mission is to address human and societal challenges through innovative solutions and catalyze innovation to lead the industry transformation.

Just days ago, The National Recycling Coalition in the US published a draft policy called “Chemical Recycling Is Not Recycling” and is seeking review and comment.
The policy includes language stating that non-mechanical processes that convert plastics at the end of life into chemical fuels or fuel feedstocks do not meet NRC’s definition of recycling
What is APR's position on chemical recycling ? How are chemical recycling developments advancing in Asia ?
As the debate intensifies , in the end ,it is essential to recognize that we need to keep the broader objective of environmental sustainability in mind and all are working towards finding effective and sustainable solutions to manage plastic waste.
Collaboration among industries, governments, and consumers will be crucial to advancing meaningful solutions without sidelining other innovative approaches to reducing waste.
More discussions will be brought to the table at the 3rd Circular Plastics Asia conference happening in Seoul on the 24-26th Sept ! Dont miss out !

Interesting start to my third and final week working at the S&P Global Commodity Insights Mexico City office with recent US government announcements surrounding the phasing out of single use plastic and efforts to reduce dependence on virgin materials in federal procurement.
Check out my coverage of industry reaction and likely market implications below!

As chemical and oil-and-gas companies continue to tout plans for new recycling facilities, policymakers are questioning whether these methods, broadly termed chemical or advanced recycling, should be considered recycling at all.
A look at a Wall Street Journal article that highlights this debate and how it connects to the urgent need for comprehensive and innovative approaches to manage and reduce plastic waste.
