Offering hope and humanity to those in need, Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital – Plano recently welcomed five individuals from Haiti to undergo life-saving surgery. Through a partnership with the Haiti Cardiac Alliance, the hospital brings vulnerable heart patients to Plano several times a year, transforming lives far beyond Texas. David Moore, MD, a cardiovascular surgeon at Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital – Plano, leads this initiative. Dr. Moore's compassion even extends beyond the hospital, often inviting these individuals to his home and maintaining close relationships after they leave. "To be able to help an individual like that, especially someone who doesn’t have any other options, gives me a great sense of satisfaction," Dr. Moore said.

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Grapevine’s Called to Love diversity council hosted a heartfelt service this past week. Keynote speaker Gloria Gay, RN, an inspiration with 51 years of nursing experience, delivered a powerful message reflecting on the past, present, and future. She emphasized the importance of striving for a community where diversity, equity, and inclusion are one language and highlighted the need for collective effort to make a difference. "I love nursing,” Gay said. “I am passionate about taking care of people. I have devoted 51 years of my life to this profession with no regrets. I am determined to leave it better than when I started, but I cannot do that by myself. It takes all of us to tackle the issues we face. We must all see the value of diversity, equality, inclusion, and belonging."

Meet Gary Yess, chaplain supervisor at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth and one of five team members honored with our highest award, the Impact Award. The Impact Award recognizes remarkable team members who make a significant impact on our patients, their families, our customers and our teammates. Halfway across the world in Egypt, a Baylor Scott & White Health team member connected with a young couple who shared the loss of their infant son at Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth. They expressed the mark left on their hearts by the local chaplain during their darkest hours. It was Gary! “That, to me, is the definition of what the Impact Award is about—the sort of impact that is life-changing,” Chief Mission & Ministry Officer Mike Mullender said as he presented Chaplain Gary with the Impact Award. “Many times, we don’t get to hear how we changed those lives down the road. We don’t have the advantage that somebody runs into someone. But it’s truly remarkable that that couple will always remember you.” Read more about this remarkable story over 7,000 miles from home: https://bit.ly/3wYsXpB
