#Britain's #pubs will be totting up the long weekend’s takings, hoping that mixed weather over an earlyish #Easter wasn’t too much of a dampener. Sadly these things matter in an #industry that has at best limped along since #Covid. The burlesque scene is in danger in London. Unfortunately the biggest venue: Proud Enbankment closed doors and there is no place in the capital to go to see a show while having a fine dining meal and afterwards have the opportunity to stay behind at the sound of Jazztronica and have an amazing after party. People used to come from all over Europe to see it. Not anymore. London needs a ‘London kind of Crazy Horse Paris’ to make its nights sultry and sophisticated. Now, in time of war some perish and some rise from the ashes and Black Phoenix Events is ready to embrace the challenge. That is exactly where we are in life. Bearing that in mind: what do you do if you… Know how to build and amazing cocktail list Know how to put together an amazing fine dining menu Know how to put together a burlesque show Know how to get a team that can deliver the above And finally know that your passion and knowledge will support the business 24/7 and you will be the beacon of the new Speakeasy in London. EASY, you LOOK for INVESTORS that want to put a quirky club/Speakeasy in their portfolio AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE DO. We offer 50% of the business for that AND THE PASSION AND THE DRIVE TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. Get in touch! #money #wealth #investors #burlesque #cabaret #business #entrepreneurs

I’m part of a campaign to save our local pub. The tenant landlords left at the beginning of this year and the owner wants to sell up - the land is highly desirable as a development opportunity. We want a local pub in our village. It’s fun and scary at the same time. It’s notoriously hard to run a viable pub (or any kind of hospitality business) but we are getting such great local support and lots of financial pledges. It’s a voyage of discovery on many levels. I’ve already learnt about one pub where, if you ask for a generic glass of wine (eg a sauvignon blanc) without specifying which one you want, they sell you the most expensive on the list without even asking. One way to make a profit, I suppose, but blimey, eye-opening. Watch this space for more hot tips on how to run a pub and/or not to be fleeced as a customer. (These two things may not be compatible and at some point I may have to choose which side I’m on!)

Patrick Abell and Andrew Solomon share how commercial landlords can regain possession of a property and terminate the lease of a failed restaurant tenant in a way that minimizes the damage and maximizes the future opportunity for the space in a recent article for the Daily Journal of Commerce. 4500 MORE PUBS TO SHUT !!! - THIS IS A REAL EMERGENCY! Very sad to hear about the problems for Stonegate Group and the Slug and Lettuce brand and it is to be hoped that this can be resolved for the sake of our wonderful hospitality sector and the preservation of thousands of jobs. I am fortunate to act for many brilliant innovative operators in the heart of London and in other major cities and they are still opening up great premises based on imaginative ideas. However, the loss of 4500 premises reduces competition which keeps all players in the industry on their toes. Business rates reform now urgently required from central Government - after all, it was the government supported by the Opposition that shut down the entire economy four years ago and the repercussions of that decision can clearly be seen in the decimation of our sector. This story about Slug is proof of all that. Lockdowns were a ludicrous and ghastly mistake. Even during the depths of World War II when the Luftwaffe was bombing us to bits the pubs stayed open! Cumulative impact policies across the country need to be scrapped. many licensing authorities have done so already and have noticed no deleterious effects. These polices are a deadening measure for local night time economies and reduce innovation and prevent many exciting new and young operators from coming into those areas enhancing the night time offer for many. The Westminster City Council policy talks about the same issues it was talking about 25 years ago when the first policy was introduced so something is not working here. The answer to bad operators is more enforcement which will get rid of them and allow good operators to move in and keep the industry on its toes. #licensing #pubs #bars #hospitality

Closing my first restaurant was really hard. I worked for 10 years to make it successful, but when our lease ended, the landlord gave our spot to someone else. We tried to talk to them, but it didn't work. We had to move, and it felt like all our hard work was for nothing. Ensure that the lease agreements are strong so that your business cannot be taken away from you after all the hard work. Want to learn more? 5moWell put and with many relevant points As I see it, pubs will continue to struggle for the foreseeable future. Customers are deterred by the cost The best thing a pub owner can do when in difficulty is to take professional advice which can then be implemented One area that has been a pleasant surprise is that landlords are, in the main, being reasonable
