“Why can’t Tun Tavern once again stand in Philadelphia?” We wanted to provide everyone an update on the status of the rebuilding of The Tun TODAY, the idea of rebuilding The Tun originated in 2015. While there had been earlier attempts to rebuild the tavern, none were like this. Past attempts did not include the other organizations that can trace their origins to The Tun. Once the decision was made to “rebuild”, the other organizations were contacted, & a “coalition” was formed with all 6 organizations with a heritage at Tun Tavern: Pennsylvania Freemasons, Society of Saint George, Saint Andrews Society, Sons of Saint Patrick, USMC & USN. In 2021, the search for a location commenced, to give The Tun’s eventual patrons the experience of colonial Philadelphia. The land chosen is currently a parking lot, about 250 yards from the original location. From the start organizers insisted that the re-established Tun should be a functioning tavern, but operate as a non-profit with all operating profits donated to veteran charities, masonic charities, & scholarships. “Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation”, was formally created in February 2021, & registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with the stated mission “To rebuild & re-establish The Tun™ as it was, a functioning mariner’s tavern reminiscent of colonial Philadelphia, serving period-influenced refreshments, food, entertainment & offering an educational experience through exhibits, historical documents, & special events.” The Foundation, headquartered in Philadelphia, with representation on its Board of Directors from each of the six “coalition” organizations, is tasked with the rebuilding of The Tun, oversee its management, & the eventual distribution of profits to veteran, masonic, and educational charities. Since the creation of the Foundation, progress has been considerable. In October 2023, an Agreement of Sale was signed to purchase the required land. In November 2023, an architect, engineer, and construction manager were formally under contract. In December of 2023 the Board of Directors were ratified and adopted the Foundation’s formal bylaws. While the bulk of the historical research has been accomplished, ongoing research continues for clarification purposes. Initial environmental testing has also been completed & a zoning application is currently being readied for submission. While much has been accomplished to ensure the completion of this goal, there is much remaining. In February 2024, we are set to close the land deal; June 2024 the design, zoning and permitting is on schedule to be completed. The goal is to have the groundbreaking and construction begin in November 2024 with the grand opening, 10 November 2025. We are now in full fund-raising mode. There are multiple ways you can help see this dream become reality. Begin by visiting the website www.TheTun.org; you can help spread the word on this effort; & you can follow us on social media to be kept updated on the dream.

Former TFR/John Lewis flooring staff appeal for crowd-funding help A group of former John Lewis & Partners and the floor room employees have set up a crowd-funding appeal to raise money to compensate for missing redundancy payments and pay legal fees. The dozen former employees say they lost £135,000 of redundancy payments ‘we had rightfully earned’ following the collapse of The Floor Room, which operated John Lewis’ flooring concessions. ‘This financial loss has been devastating for many of us, especially those who had built their lives and families around the stability of their long-term employment. Some of us gave decades to John Lewis, and now we’re facing a bleak future without the security we were counting on. ‘We are seeking your support to help us cover the financial shortfall we’ve been left with due to this injustice. Your donations will be used to: support those who have lost significant redundancy payments; cover legal and administrative fees as we explore options to challenge this situation and provide financial relief for those who are struggling due to the sudden loss of income and savings they had counted on. ‘Any amount you can contribute would make a huge difference in helping us rebuild after this ordeal. We never imagined that after decades of loyalty and hard work, we would be left in such a vulnerable position. Your kindness, generosity, and willingness to stand with us during this difficult time is something we will never forget.’ The Gofundme page is titled ‘Ex John Lewis Partners injustice.’ https://lnkd.in/eeKPpkfH #flooring #flooringindustry

Today marks one year since Cyclone Gabrielle battered down on the Hawke's Bay and Tairawhiti (Gisborne). Last year, the team at Mackersy Property set out on a fundraising mission called ‘Grunt for Gabrielle’, to raise funds for the Hawke's Bay Regional Council and Gisborne District Council. The Grunt for Gabrielle was a unique 12-hour endurance event in Arrowtown, Mt Maunganui & Christchurch, to raise as much money as possible while combining our kilometres to cover the 1,640km gap between Queenstown and Gisborne. Across those three locations, the Mackersy Property team, plus supporters and local businesses, covered 2,103.3km and everyone's support helped us to raise $27,376.30. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported us on that massive challenge! With their donation funds, the Hawke's Bay Regional Council has so far restored vital infrastructure and are working hard to support their community, and looking to the future and how they can build environmental resilience to major climate events. Their funding is based on community interventions to move and keep properties out of category 2, and reduce the number of category 3 properties. Donations to the Gisborne District Council have been prioritised for recovery to address the immediate needs of affected communities, by repairing and exploring resilience options for damaged infrastructure and implement mitigation measures to reduce risks from future weather events. A recovery plan will focus on 4 key environments - built, natural, economic and social. 🔸 Click here to see where Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is committing their funds: https://lnkd.in/g-mUWEhz 🔸 Click here to see where Gisborne District Council is committing their funds: https://lnkd.in/gZX2kzEZ

As part of our commitment to supporting the Neilcott team, we are helping staff develop their own skills and knowledge around the importance of mental health, and have encouraged our team to undertake the valuable Mental Health Awareness Course, provided by the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity. Thank you to all that have taken part and to those that have signed up for the Lighthouse Charity's Suicide Awareness Training Course, taking place over the next few weeks. We are big advocators of making wellbeing support more visible within the construction industry, and are eager to reinforce our workforce with the skills that they need to help themselves, and their colleagues. Training covers signs to look out for to know when others are struggling, coping techniques, ways to support yourself and others and steps to move forward. We encourage everyone within the construction industry to educate themselves around the importance of mental wellbeing, remain alert and recognise when others are struggling. In a world where workers in construction have a suicide rate of 3.7x higher than the national average, it is more important than ever. There are still many slots available for The Lighthouse Charity's next training course on Suicide Awareness, book your spot now. #Neilcott #Construction #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthTraining #LighthouseCharity #SuicideAwareness #MentalWellbeing
