I first heard of Global Accessibility Awareness Day when I was working in LinkedIn and involved with their amazing EnableIn employee resource group. Some people need lifelong accessibility accommodations, some people will need it because of short term developments such as pregnancy, illness or injury. There are companies like Microsoft and Vially - formerly IA Labs doing amazing work on digital accessibility. My top tip? If you become unable to write or use a keyboard, you can dictate emails in Outlook! #accessibility #GAAD

Chief Technologist | Private Cloud, Hybrid Cloud, Private AI and IT Sustainability @ Hewlett Packard Enterprise
#sustainableit #itforsustainability #liveryclimateactiongroup #wcit #constructors I’ll be speaking at this event in London on Monday 5th February, which we are pleased to host as a joint event with the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists Social Value Leadership Group and the The Worshipful Company Of Constructors. To reach net zero targets, we need more sustainable buildings which are well insulated, energy efficient and make use of low carbon and recycled materials. We’ll be hearing about some of the innovations in the construction sector from our friends at the Constructors company. I’ll be discussing whether IT is part of the climate change solution, or part of the problem. IT is inextricably linked to energy consumption, and in today’s digital world IT is not limited to data centres, there are technology products everywhere - often hidden in the fabric of buildings and running 24x7. Improving IT efficiency, reducing power consumption and optimising cooling are considerations for almost any building. IT also has a role to play in helping us understand climate change, modelling the impacts of increasingly extreme weather events on buildings, using machine learning to understand occupancy levels and how buildings are used to optimise HVAC, lighting and power consumption as well as nudge human behaviour. In the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, IT also supports the Golden Thread, a recommendation by Dame Judith Hackitt in her report, Building a Safer Future, to support duty-holders in designing, constructing and managing their buildings as holistic systems. The Golden Thread involves keeping a digital record of crucial building information – starting from the design phase and continuing throughout the building’s lifecycle. Sustainability is universal and intersectional. Events like this help us understand how industries can collaborate and work together for a more sustainable future for us all. You don’t need to be a member of WCIT or the Constructor’s Company to attend and all are welcome to come along. It will be a relaxed and informal event where we can exchange views and learn from each other. I hope to see you there. I would like to draw your attention to our Cross-Livery event on NET-ZERO, organised by The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT) and the Worshipful Company of Constructors (WCC). We need to decarbonise technologies and supply chains to deliver social value and move towards our net-zero commitment. The opportunity to reach net-zero by 2050 is here, but that needs multi-sector collaboration and targeted solutions. This cross-livery event will bring Constructors and Information Technologists (IT) together to debate technological interdependencies between the sectors, role of repair/refurbishments, sustainable choices of materials and IT solutions. The keynotes will provide good account of the current industry practice and challenges faced in the supply chain. A debate/Q&A will allow attendees to raise questions to the experts and explore possible cross-sector solutions. The event is taking place on Monday 5 February 2024 | 5.00pm – 7.30pm at the Information Technologists Hall. In an era where governments are embracing circular economy roadmaps as primary drivers of #transition, it's essential to scrutinize their nature, production process, governance, and effectiveness. #Join the World Circular Economy Forum WCEF 2024 Accelerator Session, organized by Chatham House and supported by UNIDO. This session will explore over 70 national circular economy #roadmaps and #strategies, incorporating more than 2700 policy actions. We'll delve into the recent launch of the African Circular Economy Roadmap and Chilean national circular economy roadmap, complementing our findings. Our goal is to bridge #knowledgegaps, shedding light on critical aspects of these roadmaps. By presenting insights from the world’s first global stocktake of national circular economy roadmaps, we aim to contribute perspectives to global discussions. We'll examine the rapid proliferation of these roadmaps, their governance, and their role in the broader circular transition. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gxCSb2bj #circulareconomy #WCEF2024

True or false? Funders believe that funding digital is a one-off cost. Well, despite the persistent urban myth; this is not true. Funders recognise that digital projects have the same ongoing costs as any other project might and they do want to know how you plan to see it through after the grant ends. In this guide, Joe Roberson and Alex Mecklenburg debunk six common myths that influence perceptions and decisions around digital funding. Check it out now to see if what you think you know is true and begin navigating the digital funding landscape with increased confidence. https://lnkd.in/eAhHvnxH #DigitalCosts #Funding #BustingTheMyths
