The rise of authoritarianism has significant global implications, potentially undermining international security and cooperation. A world increasingly dominated by authoritarian regimes could cripple international institutions like the UN, weaken the rules-based international order, and increase the risk of conflicts. This underscores the importance of democratic nations upholding and promoting democratic values and a rules-based system on the global stage. #DemocracyDefense #DemocraticValues #PoliticalEngagement #CivicResponsibility #GlobalDemocracy #DemocraticNorms #DemocraticInstitutions #DemocraticRevitalization #CivilDiscourse #PublicTrust #DemocraticPrinciples #Liberalism #PoliticalAccountability #Authoritarianism #DemocracyMatters #DemocraticProcess #Citizenship #PoliticalParticipation #HumanRights #FreeSpeech #MoneyMarketImpact #PoliticalInstability #MarketVolatility #InvestorConfidence #USPolitics #EconomicImplications #FinancialMarkets #RegulatoryUncertainty U.S. Department of State United Nations World Humanity Commission European Commission UK Parliament NATO #InterestRates #Creditworthiness #MarketAnalysis #PoliticalEconomy #GlobalInvestors #MoneyMarkets #InternationalSecurity #EconomicStability #FinancialInterdependence #GovernmentFinancing #MarketVolatility #SovereignDebtCrisis #CybersecurityThreats #FinancialRegulation #GlobalFinance #EconomicPolicy #FinancialInclusion #InternationalCooperation #EconomicDiversification #GlobalSecurity

Unpacking the criteria for the survivability of ideas and political systems has implications for our understanding of public policy, global security and global order. The most effective ideas are more likely to lead to societal cohesion, justice, security and prosperity for all, thereby laying the foundations for national and international stability. Conversely, ideas that do not find acceptance across society will inevitably lead to disruptions and crises in the international system. https://lnkd.in/eVhZz_tm #ideas #politics

CSOs' inability to impact the EU’s policymaking agenda resulted from the EU’s traditional struggles with the inclusivity of non-state actors in policy development. However, with the outbreak of war in Ukraine in 2022, the tides have changed. In the midst of geopolitical challenges, EU officials started emphasising that the enlargement policy was back on the agenda. The new CEP Discussion Paper argues that this shift has created a strategic opportunity for CSOs to carve out a more distinctive position within the EU’s policymaking process.

As part of your activities for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, consider reading and sharing this op-ed by Chief Raymond Powder of Fort McKay First Nation: https://lnkd.in/g6W9utZ9 Chief Powder is clear that while today is an important moment for reflection, that is just the starting point. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation must function as a call to action. Undertaking deliberate acts of economic reconciliation, upholding and respecting Treaty Rights, making necessary investments in First Nations housing and infrastructure and creating more long-term, predictable funding opportunities for First Nations are measurable, tangible actions for all orders of government to take that will move reconciliation forward, beyond Sept. 30.

newly democratizing countries challenge the democratic peace theory by highlighting the complexities and instabilities associated with the democratization process. Political instability, ambiguous democratic norms, identity politics, external influences, and diverging interests can all lead to conflict rather than peace, contradicting the theory's assertion that democracies inherently foster peaceful relations. These factors underscore the need for a nuanced understanding of how democratization interacts with conflict and peace in the international system.
