Last night I jumped in the ocean at sunset. This little act had HUGE consequences. I was driving home from pickleball with my friend Brian when he said: "Want to jump in the ocean for sunset?" I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I immediately started saying no. My brain was flooded with LOGICAL reasons why we couldn't do it: - We didn't have swimsuits - We didn't have towels - My car seats would get sandy and wet Then I realized something pretty profound: I was saying no to the life I wanted (spontaneous sunset ocean dip) Because of (insert any of my logical reasons to not take action). It didn't matter that this was just about an ocean dip. The thought process would have been the same for a major life decision. We tell ourselves we can't have what we want and then go LOOKING for reasons to justify it. So instead of listening to the reasons, we simply ignored them. We did what we wanted and jumped in the ocean. Spoiler alert 🚨 It was super FUN and we felt fully ALIVE. Plus, all my reasons to not do it didn't even matter. We washed off the sand with water. We dried off with our shirts. We sat on plastic bags I had in the car so my seats didn't get soaked. Last night we chose to LIVE instead of SETTLING. 🌞☀️ Summer is here, and so is the heat! Stay cool and safe with these sizzling hot tips: 1️⃣ Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! 💧 Keep plenty of water handy and drink up throughout the day. 2️⃣ Take breaks like a boss. 🛋️ Whether you’re working hard or playing hard, make sure to take regular breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned spot. Cold exposure is great, but have you ever tried your cold exposure in a river or lake?⁠ ⁠ If your answer is no, or you have only tried it once or twice, be sure to save this post for later and pay attention to these 4 TIPS for doing cold exposure in nature. 🏔️⁠ ⁠ 1️⃣ Don't go alone! - this is for safety. Even if you think that you're "good", it's better to be safe than sorry. At the end of the day, nature is purely unpredictable. Safety first! ⁠ ⁠ 2️⃣ Have three points of contact when entering the water. Again, safety. I'd rather use my hand as an anchor if needed than slip and bust my head open in a glacier-melt river. Stay safe, stay in control.⁠ ⁠ 3️⃣ Wear water shoes. Stubbing your toe when your feet are numb from the cold has got to be one of the worst feelings this side of the SEALs. More so, a good pair of water shoes makes it easier to navigate the river and protects your feet from cuts, etc. I love my @salomons and highly recommend them. The mist cools the air, and the sound is soothing. 3. Bushwalk Bliss: Lace up those hiking boots and explore nature. Not only will you stay cool, but you’ll also get some exercise. 4. Be a Winter Warrior Join us! Every day throughout January, no matter the weather, get outside and move for 30 minutes or more. It's our Winter Warrior Challenge. Very simple.
