Did You Know These Facts About Norwich? ⭐ Norwich, once the second-largest city in Tudor England, played a pivotal role in the country's history. This vibrant city has been a center of commerce, culture, and innovation for centuries. From its bustling wool trade to being the birthplace of the UK’s postcode system, Norwich’s legacy is one of rich heritage and enduring charm. 1️⃣ Second Largest City in Tudor England: Throughout the Mediaeval and Early Modern Age, Norwich held second place only to London in terms of population. Immigrants from all corners flocked to participate in the city’s flourishing wool trade and weaving industry. 🏰 2️⃣ Norwich City FC: Home of the UK’s oldest club song, ‘On the Ball City,’ which originated in 1890 and was adopted by Norwich City FC in 1902. Fans still sing it fervently at Carrow Road Stadium. Interestingly, TV chef Delia Smith holds a majority stake in the club. ⚽ 3️⃣ Colman’s Mustard: Jeremiah James Colman established his mustard production in Norwich in 1814, a tradition carried on by fifth-generation family suppliers of mustard seeds today. 🌭 4️⃣ Birthplace of Postcodes: In 1959, Norwich pioneered the use of postcodes, now a staple in the UK with over 1.8 million in existence. This innovative system has since streamlined mail delivery nationwide. 📮 5️⃣ A Pub Legacy: In its heyday, Norwich boasted an impressive 600 pubs during the 17th century. Subsequent changes, like the 1904 Licensing Act and urban developments, drastically reduced their number. Today, only one pub, aptly named The Last Pub Standing, remains on King Street. 🍻 #NorwichHistory #TudorEngland #NorwichCityFC #ColmansMustard #PostcodeInnovation #PubHeritage #BEQmagazine

How the Hamilton2030 Commonwealth Games bid inspired Community Regeneration. Things are quiet now. Everything is in transition. Doubts and questions remain, about, well, everything. But something notable happened today in the City Of Hamilton. The start of something significant. While the dream of bringing the 2030 Commonwealth Games home for its centenary may be in abeyance, the vision of a movement of community stakeholders united around the goal of transformation and regeneration remains. And has witnessed new life today in the launch of an initiative inspired by the Commonwealth Sporting movement. Not surprisingly, it is called: "The Commons". The Commons is an initiative of local stakeholders redeveloping the city's key entertainment assets - those that would be central to any Commonwealth Games - and leveraging the effort to promote regeneration and revitalization throughout the community. The themes, values and ambitions of the Gaming movement have now manifest in the private sector's resolve to bring change directly and immediately to this city through infrastructure and compelling new programming - at its expense. This is what the Games movement can and has inspired. Whether or not the Games ever come back here. That flame burns brightly in all of us. And will not extinguish. Whether you are from Hamilton or not, we invite you to keep the Games dream alive by engaging and following the Commons initiative at the link below. This! Portland should focus on this instead of listening to out of state land owners who refuse to adapt to the new normal. Instead of listening to the whiny commercial building owners complain about teleworking we should focus on building communities that support local business and affordable housing 24/7! Thousands of square feet available, plenty of jobs downtown, affordable housing via adaptive reuse seems like a win win if we replaced the housing that was one prominent in an area of need. It just seems like the easiest solution is often ignored when the elite have to maybe make an effort.

That’s all well and good and I agree something needs to be done with The Grand but there are fundamental issues that need fixing first. Scarborough has a massive pothole issue and the council seems to think that filling the holes with gravel will fix the problem. There’s a massive issue with drainage in Falsgrave park causing it to be either a bog or an ice rink. The council won’t grit it in the winter for fear of liability if someone has an accident, in the meantime, residents, especially the older generation fear taking a walk in the winter because they don’t want to fall. The A64 has had “talks” about it being a dual carriage way for years, when will this become a reality? There’s plots of land/warehouse at the back of Morrison’s that would be ideal for rock climbing/ice rink/trampoline centre to encourage residents and visitors all year round. What will be done about the fact there are Poundlands and charity shops but nowhere to encourage locals to shop local building a sustainable local economy? Surely these are issues that should be tackled before injecting millions of, presumably tax payers’ money into a project that will take years to come to fruition or is this a project for you purely to attract voters?
𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫. The choice is between the bold action we need, or more of the same. Others will stand by as our heritage disintegrates. I will rescue it. They’ll accept decline. I’ll reverse it. I have a grand plan for Scarborough. This isn’t a hotel renovation, it’s a revolution. And this isn’t just about one town. It’s an example of the level of my ambition for North Yorkshire. Eyesores transformed at long last. Civic pride restored. The high street brought back to life. 🗳️ Thursday’s vote will determine the future of Scarborough, and our whole county.
