Today was the NHS PEP kickoff. This program taps the expertise of patients, caregivers and advocates to evolve our healthcare system. It's based on the belief that lived experiences should steer meaningful change. I met incredible people building innovation projects addressing significant gaps in Healthcare. Their stories highlighted how grassroots initiatives by passionate locals are vital to filling health needs. The CEP recognises that top-down approaches can't address local nuances that impact health equitably. The people using services daily have crucial insights, and their voices and choices matter. When communities are empowered to lead change, it can transform lives across the UK's diversity. This programme is just what we need at this stage in building Eli Health. The CEP team, as always, are fantastic humans who inspired us all Tony Young, Polly Sullivan, and Lucy Dentice. *** What community health solutions have you seen blossoming? How can we scale creative grassroots projects nationwide? #nhsengland #cep

Strategic GPO Partner Driving Sustainable Outcomes for Community Health Centers | Empowering PCAs & FQHCs to Maximize Savings & Care | Author of ‘Cinchology’ | US Navy Veteran 🇺🇸
🌟 The Unsung Heroes of Healthcare: Community Health Centers 🌟 In the heart of our communities, often unnoticed by many, are the pillars of public health and wellness: Community Health Centers. These centers are not just healthcare providers; they are lifelines for millions, offering accessible, high-quality, and comprehensive care to all, regardless of one’s ability to pay. Why Community Health Centers Matter: 1. Accessibility: Located in underserved areas, they bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility, ensuring that everyone, including the uninsured, underinsured, and those facing financial hardships, receives care. 2. Comprehensive Care: They provide a range of services under one roof – from primary care to dental, mental health services, and even pharmacy services, making healthcare more integrated and accessible. 3. Community Focused: Understanding the unique needs of their communities, these centers tailor their services accordingly, addressing social determinants of health and working towards eradicating health disparities. 4. Cost-Effective: By offering preventive care and managing chronic conditions, they reduce the need for expensive hospital visits, saving billions in healthcare costs annually. 5. Economic Impact: Beyond health, they contribute to local economies by creating jobs and supporting local businesses. As we navigate the complexities of healthcare, let’s recognize and support the crucial role that Community Health Centers play. Their work not only uplifts individuals but strengthens the very fabric of our communities. Let’s advocate for their sustained funding and support, ensuring that they continue to serve as a beacon of hope and health for all. Development, Digital and Health Communications| Advocacy, Policy and Campaigns |Program Management| Governance | Gender |#EndFGM| Journalism |Media EIS | C4SPAA Fellow
On12th of Decemeber 2023, the Federal Government through the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Development, stated that the country is working on creating about 17,000 new primary healthcare across the country as a part of the government's responsibility towards the country's Universal health coverage. While this is a great feat, my thoughts as a health communicator and advocate of a functional health system are on functionality of the facilities. One of the major challenges we are facing in the country when it comes to access to healthcare is out-of-pocket expenditure, low number of health workers (effect of the Japa syndrome ), and lack of most healthcare equipment. Most of the time what we see is the building of a health facility, from the outside we admire it and in many cases, the government puts a ribbon across the building, and on the day of launching it is carried in the media across the country, but nobody asks the question: does the hospital have a doctor? what's the total number of healthcare professionals employed to man the newly launched health facility? do they have community health officers? CHEWS? JCHEWS? The Ward Health System Implementation Strategy of 2021 mandated that every primary healthcare should have at least 26 healthcare workers inclusive of a doctor. Does the facility meet these requirements? We can't say our hospitals are working if we are not ready to follow the policies that we have all adopted as a roadmap for improved functionality if implemented. #healthcommunications #MakeOurHospitalWork
