Cleanliness is next to ESG: Venue guests forego housekeeping to benefit community organisations. Guests at Wyboston Lakes Resort Woodlands Event Centre and Willows Training Centre can now support local charities by opting out of housekeeping during multi-night stays. Through the Room2Give initiative, choosing not to have your room cleaned directs donations to community organisations like The Pavement Project, Samuel Pepys School, and Woodgreen Pets Charity. We have launched Room2Give, our latest Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiative that will not only reduce consumption but also enable the Resort and its guests to support local community organisations. Guests staying at the venue’s Woodlands Event Centre or Willows Training Centre for more than one night will be able to choose which of three local charities to support by opting out of room cleaning. Every time a guest opts out, a donation is made to the Room2Give fund. Guests actively choose which charity their contribution supports by hanging the corresponding door hanger. The organisations include: 💙 The Pavement Project 💙 Samuel Pepys School 💙 Woodgreen Pets Charity 💙 Spruce Up Cleaning Services To find out more about the initiative, visit: https://lnkd.in/eB7HypyV? #bedfordbusiness #bedford #steneots #sustainability #esginitiative

Strengthening Charities with Skilled Volunteering We’re proud to share the success story of Mulat Haregot, a dedicated leader working with two vital organisations in London: Islington BAMER Advice Alliance (IBAA) and Evelyn Oldfield Unit (EOU). These charities are making a significant difference in their communities, and with the support of Link UP London’s Skilled Volunteers, they’ve been able to strengthen their capacity and overcome key challenges. Mulat has seen first-hand how our skilled volunteers are helping small charities tackle development crossroads, refine their strategies, and build the foundation for sustainable growth. 🌱 Skilled volunteers are integral in providing strategic support, expertise, and insights that have a lasting impact on these organisations and the communities they serve. 🏆 Prize Draw Insights: Celebrating Sussex's Charitable Spirit! 🎉 At the recent Acumen Business Convention, we hosted a prize draw with a revealing question: "Sussex boasts many remarkable charities, yet only a handful are widely known. Tell us how many Sussex-based charities you know?" The results underscored this statement, with circa 100 respondents consistently mentioning three well-known much-loved charities: Rockinghorse Children's Charity Chestnut Tree House Martlets Hospice An additional 77 charities were captured, but a large majority only by a single respondent, thereby highlighting the significant challenge faced by grassroots charities in Sussex to build awareness of the work they deliver. At Focus Foundation, it is our mission to support lesser-known grassroots charities in raising their profile and encouraging opportunities for collaboration. Congratulations to Rockinghorse, Chestnut Tree House and Martlets for elevating their profile so successfully. We aspire to help other charities achieve similar recognition. Together, we can connect communities and change lives. 💜 #FocusFoundation #SussexCharities #CommunitySupport #CharityAwareness #ThisIsFocus ACUMEN BUSINESS LAW

Some good advice from Sarah Mason for funders and and recipient charities about the need to trust charities with unrestricted funding. 👀⬇️ I have seen many funding arrangements over the last 30 years, some good, some bad. In the best funding relationships: *funders and charities are clear about what the funding is for, expected outcomes and anticipated impact *funders trust charities to know on what, how and when to spend the funding to deliver outcomes and impact *funders understand if some outcomes aren't achieved for good reasons *charities designate the funding to ensure it is used for the purposes for which it is given *charities tell funders about the difference the funding has made, they sing about outcomes and impact. *charities can explain why outcomes or impacts haven't materialised and what can to be done about that Less impactful funding relationships are complex, include too many controls and end up in the hands of lawyers (like me in previous chapters) unpicking unnecessary restrictions which didn't need to be there in the first place. Now, more than ever, charities need flexible funding. #charities #charitytrustees #charityfunding

“If you want to maximise impact with your donations - support charities who know what they are doing and leave them to decide what to do with your donation.” says Julia Davies in her support of Greenpeace with #unrestricted funding. In my view, this is the most important piece of advice that funders can listen to & act on. Many charities stand on a precipice, with so many closing, leaving their work & impact in tatters. Unrestricted donations are vital for survival. Funders, please trust charities to spend your money well. Thank you 💚 #funding #charities #social #impact #nature #environment #heritage

‘What Makes a Great Charity’? 😊 🏆📢 Here is what Natalie Egleton of FRRR (Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal) had to say; “A great charity is led from the top and the bottom, driven by lived values and experience coupled with strategic nous and a carefully balanced level of commercial acumen. They have a clear and realistic ambition that reflects their focus, scale, and the relative complexity of the issues they seek to address. Great charities have a genuine understanding of their place and role in the sectors and systems they operate in. They know what they are great at, know their worth, and resist temptations to diversify outside their lane as funding cycles and trends come and go. They serve the greater good by harnessing and deploying their expertise and collaborating meaningfully. They get outcomes and tell great stories that bring others along, create a shared vision, and sense of progress. A great charity is well-resourced, makes a profit and can plan ahead for several years. Charities should never let their own survival be their focus – great charities ask themselves regularly whether they should be trying to do themselves out of business, if that’s what achieving the mission would result in.” READ THE VIEWS OF OTHERS IN THIS NATIONAL CONVERSATION https://lnkd.in/ggME_N7C #socialchangeAustralia #socialpurpose #greatcharity #Philanthropy
