With more than 70% of our transmission lines aging and reliability concerns growing, the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 has never been more necessary. This legislation aims to reform the permitting process, allowing for quicker upgrades to our grid infrastructure and more renewable energy projects to be brought online. By simplifying bureaucratic procedures and easing the permitting process, more electricity from renewable sources can be transmitted on an even more resilient and stable grid. Modernizing our grid is essential— not just to keep our lights on, but to also ensure we can meet the constantly growing demand for electricity. 💡 #WeEffectChange #GridReliability #ClimateChange #EnergyPermittingReformAct

There are enough clean energy projects in development today to meet 80% of America’s total energy demand - so why are we still relying on coal and gas? We currently don’t have the transmission infrastructure to transport that clean energy from the places where it’s generated to our own homes. The Environmental League of Massachusetts is proud to announce that we are joining Advanced Energy United, American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG), National Wildlife Federation, and NECEC on the new ‘Transmission Possible’ campaign, building support at the local, state, and federal levels for upgrading America’s energy transmission infrastructure. By prioritizing the development of transmission infrastructure, we can create 3.3 mil jobs nationwide, ensure energy reliability, and help utilities coordinate resources. “By building transmission lines to clean energy sources, like offshore wind, we can create a better, more reliable power grid that ensures lower energy costs and increased energy diversity and independence” - Kelt Wilska, Offshore Wind Director at ELM. “Working together, states and communities can build necessary transmission infrastructure for renewables, while strengthening our regional economy, protecting ratepayers, improving public health, and creating high-quality jobs and equitable access to economic opportunity.” Learn more at transmissionpossible.org. - - - #EnergyEfficiency #Transmission #CleanEnergy #OffshoreWind #TransmissionInfrastructure #GridModernization #GreenInfrastructure

Although it is not about the Family Islands, the case study from 2014 of the New Providence power system discusses the renewable advantage. The conclusions and recommendations of the document are more relevant than ever. A $400 million opportunity for those who have the appetite and wherewithal, including grid modernization and fuel conversion of generation assets.

Interesting news in the journey to decarbonisation! Under new government plans, wind and solar farms that are ready to be built would be allowed to jump the queue for a connection to the UK’s electricity system. All energy schemes which need a connection to the National Grid are currently in a single queue which operates on a "first-come-first-served" basis. Some projects face waiting times stretching long into the next decade to get connected. The government wants to speed up projects that will help it meet its goal of decarbonising power generation in the UK by 2030. #decarbonisation #greenenergy #powerhub #energysaving #energy #energyreduction #sustainability #netzero

With more than 350 renewable microgrid installations across North America, it was great to see two Schneider Electric installations at the Yokota Air Base and Miramar Air Station highlighted on the "Special Report with Bret Baier" program on the Fox TV network. Exploring the topic of microgrids, Bret reported how they augment the main electrical grid when it comes to energy resiliency and energy security--two key benefits related to protecting infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/gW5pcQUt

Senior Vice President of External Affairs Sarah Webster will moderate a panel discussing expanding and optimizing the energy grid at the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) Policy Forum in Washington D.C. Expanding and upgrading transmission capacity is necessary to accommodate the integration of renewable energy and storage resources spurred by public investment and private demand. This panel will discuss solutions for building this much-needed infrastructure, including improvements to regional and interregional transmission planning, greater use of grid-enhancing technologies and advanced conductoring, reforms to permitting processes, and more. https://lnkd.in/eBtzRsjq #PatternEnergy #PatternPeople #ACOREPolicyForum #Sustainability #Transmission #RenewableEnergy #RenewablePower #CleanEnergy #CleanPower

Release of the 2024 Victorian Transmission Plan (VTP) Guidelines VicGrid is putting in place a new approach to planning renewable energy zones and transmission as we transition away from coal-fired power. This new approach includes a long-term strategic plan we call the Victorian Transmission Plan. The plan will ensure we build the right amount of energy infrastructure in the right places at the right time to keep the lights on and deliver power to Victorian homes and businesses. 💡 📑 We have now released the 2024 Victorian Transmission Plan Guidelines, outlining how we will develop the 2025 Victorian Transmission Plan. This milestone comes after a formal five-week period of engagement with landholders, local communities, and industry representatives. 🙌 Thank you to everyone who gave their time and contributed to the consultation process. Your feedback has played an important role in refining the guidelines. 🔗 A detailed summary of what we heard through engagement, and how it shaped the guidelines, is available via Engage Victoria at https://lnkd.in/gihUtCgM The study area will be narrowed down to much smaller areas through engagement and further analysis, as we work to define future renewable energy zones. 🗺️ A comprehensive final engagement report, including feedback on the study area, will be released by 31 October 2024. Three important documents have been published impacting the electricity sector, with a focus on location and flexibility. These were Long Duration Energy Storage by EirGrid Group, Demand Flexibility Product Proposal by ESB Networks and Climate Action Plan Progress Report by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. Looking at actual data from March to October 2023 in the link below 👇 we can see the difference between metered generation and actual availability of renewable generators, summed to a postcode level. The difference between availability and metered generation is the lost energy. What we can see is the following: 1) 📉959 GWh is the total amount of lost energy during this time period . 2) 🗺 Postcodes at Lifford (F93), Ballina (F26), Mallow (P51) and Galway (H91) are those with the greatest lost energy . 3) ↘ The average lost energy is 17% by postcode. The importance of reviewing on a postcode level is to help send the signal for demand, generation and transmission/distribution to invest and manage the risks accordingly to help us reach our 2030 targets. 💻 Having the data is vital for the electrification transition. https://lnkd.in/eefnGpxv #realassets #electrification #energytransition #infrastructure
