As we celebrate the uniquely American holiday which actually frames a heart for not only faith but diversity, we must all be more responsible with the policies and principles we promote and the consequences thereof. The money we spend and the ways we spend it have benefits and consequences, so our corporate responsibility is not just to spend, but to spend wisely. Where we place our funding matters and we do not get to ignore its impact. Tread carefully as corporate entities and own the relationships responsibly. As a non-profit leader for many years, I find corporate America ill-equipped in many instances This is why you build partnerships over many years. In addition, you vet those organizations thoroughly and you consider the impact on your own corporate brand. We should have learned a lot over the last three years and we can all do better. If you are committed to helping, do your homework, understand your corporate mission, and evaluate your stakeholders carefully. #strategicthinking

Every June, cities around the world are awash in vibrant rainbows as the LGBTQ+ community and allies celebrate Pride Month. This celebration is often associated with coming out, a pivotal moment for many LGBTQ+ individuals. However, Pride Month is about much more than that. It is a powerful affirmation of pride in oneself, a celebration of self-acceptance, and a call to embrace our authentic identities. Coming out is undoubtedly significant; it marks a personal and often transformative journey. Yet, Pride Month extends beyond this singular act. It is about recognizing and honoring the ongoing process of self-acceptance. For many, embracing their identity is a lifelong journey that involves overcoming societal prejudices, internalized stigma, and personal struggles. Pride Month celebrates the courage it takes to live authentically every day. Moreover, Pride is about visibility and representation. It serves as a reminder that LGBTQ+ individuals exist in all walks of life and deserve to be seen, heard, and respected. This visibility is crucial in fostering a sense of belonging and community, especially for those who might feel isolated or marginalized as I did growing up and even through my young adulthood. I felt I was worth less than the folks who were “normal”. At its core, Pride is about love and self-respect. It’s a declaration that everyone deserves to love and be loved, free from fear and discrimination. It's about acknowledging the worth and dignity of every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. In essence, Pride Month is a celebration of the entire journey of self-acceptance. It’s about coming out, yes, but it's also about what comes after—living openly, authentically, and proudly. It’s a time to embrace who we are and to support others in their journeys toward self-acceptance. Pride is not just an event; it's a powerful affirmation of identity, community, and love…FOR EVERYONE. I’m proud to be a part of an organization who celebrates this month with our community!

Hello everyone, One of the organizations I help do programing for called CoastPride had some vandalism occur to their center recently. To show up in community with them I would like to send them a card with messages from anyone who would like to share anything. Thier youth has been dealing with bullying as well lately, and they do not have every big team. If you would like to help more in anyway check out their post! I will be adding every comment here on a card to them. Read below to learn more. "Hi CoastPride Community, I am writing to share that we had a targeted vandalism incident at the CoastPride Center overnight Monday-Tuesday this week. Thankfully no person experienced physical harm or injury during or as a result of the incident. Two people cut and removed our Progress Pride flag, tore down our rainbow bunting, kicked and cut our “No home for hate” lawn sign, smeared mud on our wooden trans heart, threw our painted rocks onto the sidewalk and street, and threw a rock into one of our front windows. We have cleaned up the visible damage, replaced our Progress Pride flag, and are working on getting the window replaced. We are also working closely with our group facilitators to make sure everyone is being supported, has space to process the incident during group sessions, and continues to feel safe at the Center. Feelings of anger, sadness, frustration, and hurt are all valid. If you need to talk or process, want to leave a message on our Affirmations Wall, or just want to say hi, please feel free to come by the Center during open hours next week: Monday 10 am - 2 pm and Thursday 2 pm - 6 pm. I’ll be onsite during those times. Looking forward, we are continuing our long-term work of creating a coastside that supports and celebrates people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We do this by providing training, collaborating with schools and school districts, partnering with faith leaders, and supporting parents and caregivers. We do this by celebrating Queer joy during June Pride month, at every support group session, and every day we are still here. If you feel moved to take action, thank you. Happy Pride Month! 🌈 As we celebrate Pride Month, it's important to bring awareness to the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. Many individuals find themselves in situations and workplaces where they aren't sure if they will be welcomed, accepted, or even safe. This month serves as a reminder that our support and advocacy should extend beyond these 30 days and be part of our everyday lives. I love seeing the rainbow logos everywhere - it brings me hope. But Pride Month isn't just about one month of recognition. It’s about showing continuous support and being active allies. It's about fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of their identity, feels safe and valued. It's essential to amplify voices across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum and work towards a future where everyone can live authentically without fear. Today is the final day of Pride Month. But Pride should continue in our actions, our words and our support for friends, family members, employees and everyone in the LGBTIQA+ community. Pride Month is certainly a reminder to us that the community has made amazing strides in being out, being visible and creating advocacy. To me it also marks a sad recognition of the continued, frightening shift towards more violence, more anti-LTBGTA+ legislation and more hate. That is why we need to strive be visible and active Allies, for example by voting for people who truly support the community, contributing to non-profits like the Trevor Project, displaying an Ally pin and engaging in 1-1 conversations.  I ask the community here to do the same, both during Pride Month and year round. I recently had a conversation with a friend about pronouns – why did my youngest change their name, redefine their gender identity and use the pronouns he/him and they / them. My response was that I use the name they adopted and pronouns they use because they are words with meaning for them and therefore also for me. It also simply isn’t up to me, but rather an act of love and respect for how a person wants to live their life. Allies vs Accomplice⁣⁣  ⁣⁣ In the fervent arena of social activism, the distinction between allies and accomplices becomes a profound one. Allies often offer their support in spirit, standing in solidarity with those fighting for change. However, the term "accomplices" takes the concept of support a step further, emphasizing active, tangible contributions to the cause.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Accomplices put skin in the game—whether it be through vocal advocacy, financial support, leveraging their social or professional status, or participating in direct action. This perspective challenges individuals to reflect on the depth of their commitment to advocacy. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It's a call to move beyond passive support to embodying the change through concrete actions. Beware of “rainbow washing”. What is “rainbow washing”, you ask? It is the superficial practice of some companies to display rainbows in their efforts to capitalize on Pride Month, create greater awareness of their brand, attempt to elicit positive feelings associated with their brand and extend their market reach. This cursory gesture is problematic in that these companies do not provide ongoing support to the 2SLGBTQ+ community and may in fact, not be true allies. To ascertain whether a company is being exploitative or authentic, I suggest you look at the activities of the company outside of the month of June. Instead of being misled by Pride Month marketing ask yourself, in what ways does the company support the queer community year ‘round? Are they known for their equitable hiring practices and being a safe place to work for 2SLGBTQ+ employees? Are they a company that supports 2SLGBTQ+ legislation and donates money to organizations that support the queer community? Or, does the company make financial contributions to institutions and legislators promoting an anti-2SLGBTQ+ platform? By doing a little research and making informed choices about where your dollars go, you can avoid supporting “rainbow washing” companies during Pride Month.   #pride #pridemonth
