The creation of the Council of the Nations and Regions is a big deal, especially for England's regions. Until now, places like the North didn't have an official "seat at the table". For example, Scotland, Wales, London and even the Cayman Islands were afforded a seat at the Brexit decision making table, while the North was left out in the cold. Central-local relationships are moving in the right direction, and if the Prime Minister and devolved leaders get this right, it could even signal the beginning of a decade of regional renewal. Of course, the Council (and others) have a huge job to do - to undo an inheritance of staggering divides and the unacceptable reality that where you live in the UK determines how well you live. It's positive their first meeting focussed on investment, as regional growth is national growth. But to be successful, we hope the Council will lead to: ➡ Stronger devolved input into UK policy ➡ Better investment in regions & nations ➡ More transparent decision making
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Labour MP for Holborn and St Pancras and Leader of the Labour Party. Former Director of Public Prosecutions.
Today we held the first Council of the Nations and Regions. Working together, we will unlock the whole of the UK’s untapped potential to make everyone, everywhere better off.

https://lnkd.in/ge5Xwyap I have read thus far only the Executive Summary, but here this is for your perusal. Broadly speaking, the PIF members welcome the Quad, but some are critical of the “free and open Indo-Pacific” narrative that undergirds it. As the Quad seeks to bolster its engagement in the Pacific Islands, it should ensure that it accounts for the unique challenges facing this vast maritime region, which relies heavily on foreign assistance.

Today is unique as it marks three decades since the Convention that Established the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) was signed on July 24, 1994. Under the theme “United for Life: Towards a more sustainable Greater Caribbean,” this milestone represents our enduring commitment to regional integration, sustainable development, and enhanced cooperation among our Member States, Countries, and territories. A layer of historical and symbolic importance is added to this milestone by the fact that Colombia is currently chairing the ACS Ministerial Council, as thirty years ago, the event that laid the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of regional cooperation took place in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. https://bit.ly/3zWN2hj #ACS30 #SustainableDevelopment #Cooperation

Chief Executive Officer of Barnaby & Associates, a Technical Advisory and Consulting Firm specializing in Indigenous Procurement [Policy, Strategies, Processes, Indigenous Participation Plans] and Quality Management.
As the narrative of Indigenous Relations, Partnerships, Procurement, and Infrastructure has been evolving rapidly over the last several weeks/months- Our team recognizes the common theme of consent. Yesterday, ReconciliAction spoke of FPIC (free prior and informed consent) in the context of Partnerships and Procurement. It’s foundational to each of our work as participants in this field. FPIC is a verb- a professional practice that spawns from the core of a just culture. It begins at the level of business development- moving outward, monitored inward. From planning, to hiring, to marketing, to engaging, to building. When done correctly, the return is outstanding!!! Build on your companies organizational learning of consent (or FPIC) by attending such events and/or reaching out. I’m looking forward to FNMPC’s Conference on Consent. #growingmarket #evolvingsupplychain #IndigenousBusinesses #IndigenousProcurement #selfdetermination #selfgovernance #goodbusiness #ROI #letsdobusiness #growth #agility #innovation
Many industry leaders recognize that partnerships with First Nations reduce risk and help advance major resource and related infrastructure projects across Canada, but many do not know where to start. FNMPC’s conference will showcase tools and best practices for meaningful engagement and business partnerships with First Nations in decisions impacting their lands. Join EDC and our industry partners in a couple weeks at the #FNMPC2024 conference, held at the Sheraton Centre Hotel, Toronto, to connect, collaborate, and create equitable solutions to the climate crisis while maximizing project investments and returns. Hope to see you there! Details for registration, agenda program, and speakers list are available now at: https://lnkd.in/gMx_77Up

In The National Interest, I join with former colleagues Kaush Arha and Tom Dans to call for a Compact of Free Association (#COFA) between the U.S. and #Greenland. Such an arrangement would serve the interests of both, and #Denmark, in an era of competition in the #Arctic with both #Russia and #China. Closer U.S. ties to Greenland are a must going forward. #foreignpolicy #arctic

The Palau International Ship Registry (PISR) salutes the signing of a joint declaration between the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the United States of America, reaffirming the Compacts of Free Association and the strong relations between the countries. The completion of the new Compact-related agreements between the Freely Associated States, including Palau and the United States of America for the next 20 years, will further solidify the historic relations and long collaboration between Palau and the United States. The ceremony took place at the Palau Mission in New York, on the margins of the 79th United Nations General Assembly. Following the signing ceremony, President Whipps, President Simina, and President Heine met with US President Joe Biden at the United Nations to further discuss and commemorate the deep and enduring partnerships between the Freely Associated States and the United States. The leaders reaffirmed their dedication to working closely to promote security, prosperity, and sustainable development across the Pacific. 👉🏼 Learn more about the Compact of Free Association between the Republic of Palau and the United States at: https://bit.ly/3zKESbT #Palau #US #FreelyAssociatedStates #PalauInternationalShipRegistry #BlueRegistry #SmartRegistry #MaritimeIndustry #COFA #CompactofFreeAssociation
