CACF’s Co-Executive Director Vanessa Leung joined our partners at AAPI Data at the APIA Vote Leadership Summit in Philadelphia last week for a panel discussion titled “Advocacy in Action: Why Data Equity is Essential and What You Can Do.” During her remarks, Vanessa detailed the work CACF’s Invisible No More campaign continues to do in order to bring data equity to New York State. She also discussed how AAPI Data’s new AANHPI Community Data Explorer tool will help our team strengthen our research capabilities across our policy advocacy and programmatic work. Thank you to conference host National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) and to our fellow panelists at Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, EPIC, and OCAPICA for a great conversation!

SRHR Advocate, Peer educator at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Co-founder of Youth Advocates Against Drugs and Substance (YAADs) volunteering as programmes officer.
It was a privilege to be participating in Issue Generation today 21 September 2024. During this fruitful session I learned about four crucial thematic areas in the civil societies space. 1. Advocacy 2. Leadership 3. Lobbying 5. Social accountability There's a saying I take home says:if we can't join them on the table when they discuss our issue we should know they will discuss us, and we will be their breakfast and will be eaten and eaten,so what am simply saying is let's young people in different communities get involved in leadership in decisions marking processes. (because this is our time and I am arguing that we're the future tomorrow.. YOUNG PEOPLE IS THE PRESENT AND TOMORROW'S FUTURE.). #yett, #ministryofyouthempowermentdevelopmentvocational #youth4Integrity

Youth-serving organizations almost always emphasize cultivating leadership skills, but how often are those youth empowered to be the architects of their own vision when putting those skills into practice? How often are youth set to work executing a vision that adults have already created, on their behalf? Kate Lord and Janae Phillips of She's the First, a global organization that teams up with grassroots leaders to make sure girls are educated, respected, and heard, share what they’ve learned from making the leap into youth-led advocacy campaigns: 💡Commit to living in a girl’s world (you work for them) 💡Be prepared to go BIG 💡Embrace (and trust) big feelings 💡Work to translate your jargon 💡Give permission to fail Learn how your organization can yield decision-making power to the youth you work with 👉 https://lnkd.in/eYsK9gDU

This NAIDOC Week, the Leadership Space team is reflecting on how we continue to partner, work with and learn from First Nations leaders and organisations. This year’s theme - ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud.’ – really resonates with us. As we think about this, it speaks to us about the importance of connection, community, respect, and of feeling part of and aligned with purpose. Leadership in all its forms is about standing up for what you believe in, having uncomfortable conversations, and helping to set things to rights. We are so appreciative of the many organisations we have been invited to work with that are Aboriginal Controlled; are working to advance First Nations people and cultures; as well as the many First Nations Directors, executives and colleagues we work with. We see how hard you work, how much trauma-informed ways matter, and how far we all have yet to travel. We look forward to continuing to play our part by listening, learning and engaging in meaningful dialogue to create a society where the wisdom and contributions of First Nations people are fully valued and respected. Let's keep the fires burning. 🔥 P.S. This resource below is from the NAIDOC toolkit. 🙏🏼 Elise Sernik PCC, Barb Barkley PCC, Sarit Vandegraaff, Nicola Rothmann, Melinda Hobson
