I need your help connecting with community organizations focused on improving health. If you volunteer, sit on the Board or know of a non-profit that could benefit, please let me know. I support students from all of our Schools (Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health) learning how to work on teams. I have 60 student teams comprised of 10-15 learners each from the different Schools, and I am looking for at least 20 collaborators. Our students are not able to provide direct patient care, but can help you in researching, developing evidence-based educational materials, reviewing existing of materials, delivering education to communities, etc. all with a focus of supporting your organizations impact social determinants of health through a team-based approach.

Education serves as the fundamental key that unlocks a multitude of opportunities and pathways towards a brighter future. By rallying together to support students within our community, we can provide them with the necessary resources and avenues for personal and academic growth. This act of support not only impacts the individual students but also contributes to the overall welfare and progression of our society. Through initiatives like #2CareForMeOutreach, we can make a tangible difference by fostering positive change and empowerment. By emphasizing the importance of education, we aim to build a stronger foundation for our community, one that is driven by a shared mission to uplift and inspire. In a city like Las Vegas, Nevada, where diversity and potential abound, investing in education is a crucial step towards creating a more inclusive and prosperous environment. Let's continue to champion social change, uplift one another, and build a brighter future together through the power of education. #MakeADifference #CommunitySupport #positivevibes #support #nonprofit #changes #socialchange #communitybuilding #missiondriven #Education.

Adopting pedagogies of care and solidarity is not just a choice but a necessity when we commit to doing anti-oppressive research. As Linda Tuhiwai Smith reminds us in her brilliant book "Decolonising Research Methodologies" too many people, for far too long, have been hurt by research for us to continue with the status quo. For those of you working in the non-profit, how often is care and solidarity mentioned in evidence gathering activities? I worked for 13+ years in non-profits, and I can only think of less than a handful of time where there was a deep conversation around the process, and what that should look and feel like for all involved. In our haste to produce, it is easy to forget that evidence/"needs" assessments/research is not just about producing knowledge but about fostering meaningful relationships, promoting justice, and enacting tangible change in the world. Pedagogies of care remind us of the importance of centering the well-being and agency of all stakeholders involved. On a practical level, this might mean: * Being very intentional about the questions and methods that you use. Which means collaborative decision-making processes related to the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence/assessment/research design * Prioritising joy and wellbeing! Research doesn't have to be traumatising or joyless. Use approaches that don't feel extractive. Budget properly. Include activities so that wellbeing isn't just some random, tokenistic afterthought or a pack of biscuits and tea (yes, I've seen this as the extent of "care" in evidence gathering activities). * Creating opportunities for mutual learning and skill-sharing among all stakeholders where people involved in the project can exchange knowledge, share resources, and build collective capacity. * Using data/evidence/ research findings to advocate for policy changes, institutional reforms, and community-led initiatives that challenge oppressive systems and promote social justice. This week I'm highlighting eight key principles that inform Design for Social Impact's approach to research and program design Through genuine collaboration, mutual learning, and collective action, I truly believe we can co-create research practices that challenge systems of power and privilege and strive for genuine social transformation What pedagogies of care and solidarity do you integrate or want to integrate into your research/evidence gathering activities for social impact? Suggestions and resources in the comments please ! #nonprofits #research #equity #antioppression #care #solidarity ____________________________________________________________________________ Design for Social Impact is a rebellious social enterprise, supporting researchers and non-profit practitioners design equity-centred programmes, policies, research and learning. Yes, Jessica Oddy PhD. Centering Equity in Design for Social Impact, THIS! Breaking down the false binary between the researcher and the researched. We certainly need more non-white researchers asking the questions and studying our own people and cultures in ways that are not centred on othering and deficits, but on belonging and strengths. Your post reminded me of my youthful idealism as a graduate student reading Edward Said and dreaming of a less fetishising culture and theory… We are slowly getting there. Our location-based pricing for this course makes diversifying the global social impact research mafia a much more real possibility! Already some fantastically diverse learners registering, from Mexico to Morocco! Bring on 20 May! P.S. Hope everyone had a restful and nourishing May Day - workers (and campus protestors) of the world, unite 👊🏾 #mayday #antiracism #inclusion #DEIB #internationaldevelopment #nonprofit #researchdesign #purchasingpowerparity #economicjustice #racialjustice

Reflecting on my transformative experience with the ILSS - India Leaders for Social Sector Fundraising course, I've come to understand that fundraising is not just about money—it's about inviting others to join a cause they passionately believe in. Over the past 10 days, the support for our fundraiser has been heartwarming. Whether through contributions or spreading the word, each action reinforced our mission. Yet, amidst this progress, I'm left pondering: in a world that celebrates vast social networks, why do causes like ours still struggle to connect with the right people? I invite you all to join this conversation. How can we ensure that impactful initiatives reach those who resonate with them most? Whether you have insights to share or are inspired to contribute, your contribution matters. Comment below or please do connect with me to brainstorm ideas. #Fundraising #SocialImpact #ILSS #JoinTheCause #CommunityEngagement
