"𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀" A few years ago, I was invited to speak at an internal event where I shared insights with early-career professionals about the importance of building your internal and industry-wide network and brand. One moment that really stood out was a conversation around 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆. The room felt tense when discussing how what you do outside of work can affect your professional image. I saw their concern — 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗱. When it was my turn to speak, I decided to break the ice with an honest confession… 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀! Why? Because... ▪️ Being professional doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, whether you’re in the office or out with friends. ▪️ The teams I’ve enjoyed working with the most—where I felt the most open, honest, and productive—are the ones I had the most fun with. And many of those colleagues are still friends today. ▪️ 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀. After watching this (and this was the first episode I’ve watched through it’s entirety, sorry) and WOW!! Heather you have me TRULY INSPIRED! I felt as if you were speaking directly to me. I’ve been struggling with whether and how to carve out time to finish my degree. Your insights on taking careers to the next level are spot-on. Mentorship has been key in my journey, guiding me through challenges and pushing me to grow. Self-care is often overlooked but essential for sustained success, we need to take time to smell the roses. Taking risks, stepping out of comfort zones, and exploring beyond the office walls have opened up new opportunities I never imagined, and we must find that energy to continue taking those risks. 🎉🚀 Having spent my 15th year volunteering as a paramedic in the Cologne Carnival, I was thrilled to step into a new role this time: serving in the communication team (media relations and press contact, documentation & situation assessment) 🎭💼 While my usual role involves analyzing trends and driving innovation, today taught me that the dynamics and engagement I value in innovation management are present in various contexts. Working in an operational command center in emergency services shares many parallels with innovation management: it demands swift decision-making, effective communication, and adaptability to changing circumstances. Both domains rely on teamwork and clear objectives to successfully tackle challenges. Yet, the high level of engagement among members of the Cologne Carnival societies also left a profound impression. Their dedication to traditions and passion for their collective endeavor reflects the values crucial in innovative companies: unity, creativity, and a willingness to push boundaries. Today reaffirmed that innovation isn't confined to offices and labs but thrives wherever people come together to create something exceptional. 🌟💡 Tomorrow I will be happy to be back in the office - many thanks to ERGO Group AG that the Monday of the carnival period is traditionally a work free day. #Innovation #Teamwork #Carnival
