Flexible intimate spaces. This is a project that I hope to see very soon, with a symbolic, cultural, creative, and distinctly Italian significance. Envisioned for years as a significant international cultural establishment in the heart of Lower Manhattan, the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) stands as the final piece and cultural cornerstone of the 2003 initiative to reconstruct the World Trade Center site following the tragedy of 9/11. PAC NYC serves as both a cultural hub and a testament to the transformative power of the arts. Its striking metamorphosis is remarkable: by day, it presents itself as a sturdy, monolithic structure, only to become a luminous, translucent cube after nightfall. This transformation is made possible through the remarkable illumination expertise of the Italian brand Flos, which has turned the venue into a true masterpiece — a result of the innovative lighting concept crafted by Tillotson Design Studio. 🙌 What’s your take? # 300 ART, United States 👉 More contents on our website, the link to the featured news is in the first comment below. 🎯 If you want to learn more about our transformative approach to generating growth (yes, what we call innovation marketing!), feel free to write us privately. Business, and the design industry along with it, is changing. One thing that’s not, is the proven abilities of designers to stay at the helm of that change. Designing the future we all actually want. That’s what we’ll be talking about at The Design Effect. What’s important? What’s relevant for us to pay attention to? What are successful individuals working in business doing now and next? How are they doing it? The Design Effect isn’t time away from what matters in your day-to-day; it’s an essential day. Be part of it. Grab one of the remaining tickets before they sell out: https://lnkd.in/gqmvbsee The Design Effect | 8 October 2024 | 13:30 - 22:00 | The British Museum #Design #EffectiveDesign #DesignEvents #DesignEffect

From time to time it's good to take a critical look at everyday places and how they are designed. They tend to be shaped by the culture and time in which they are built, sometimes including the shortcomings or otherwise outdated ideas of that time. A theater, for example, often follows similar design principles, but are the spaces really accessible to everyone? As I perceive it, many have been designed with a dash of white normativity and internalized ableism. With my friend Heini we dream of more accessible cultural venues, and if you have access to ARK magazine you can read about our thoughts from here:

The event I worked on a couple of weeks ago wasn't just about a book launch. It was an event with purpose. To encourage the built environment to make waves to become more inclusive (this is what the book is all about). But it was important to Marsha Ramroop FRSA FIEDP that the event represented inclusivity where possible, with sustainability as an additional driving factor. When she first came up with the idea for the event, she committed to writing an ethical and sustainability audit report afterwards (which you can see below). As you can see, being sustainable and ethical isn't always the cheapest option and it's particularly hard to expect one individual to not only bang the drum for this, but to fit the bill herself. Events are inherently unsustainable (both environmentally and financially), but this really shouldn't be the case. A lot of event organisers are now trying to be more sustainable and inclusive, but it comes at a cost. We see a lot of festivals shutting down because the cost is too prohibitive, and that's without throwing sustainability into the mix. There needs to be more support from the larger corporate companies, not only within their own organisations, but for events within their industries (through sponsorship for example) so we can continue to put on events such as the Building Inclusion - The Book launch event which ultimately promotes a better world for everyone. #sustainability #sustainableevents #inclusion #buildinginclusion #events #weworkevents

I promised to share this to hold myself #accountable for being #inclusive not just in how the event looked for people to attend, but how it was put together and the #suppliers used. So, where the money came from and who it went to, is all listed here. 'Building Inclusion - The Book, The Work, The Event' cost over £24k to put on, and a further £15-17k in supporting costs across six months. I thoroughly enjoyed organising this event. What an amazing group! I'll definitely be staying in touch with everyone. I also enjoyed putting this video together. As with everything, the more you practice something the better you get! Is there a skill that you're looking to develop at the moment? How are you getting on? Let me know if I can help in any way 😊 Also, let me know if you have any tips to help me improve these videos going forwards! #personaldevelopment #videoediting #eventmanagement #events

Something to read: how the values of welcoming and including diverse people reflect on the design (of spaces, content and experiences). In other words, when theory becomes practice.
