In terms of what the make-up of a board should look like and what experience is most relevant, "It's about what you're trying to do" says Wilhelm H Mohn. Séverine Neervoort notes that ICGN will be putting together a working group to look at private equity later this year. "You have to go into these conversations [with boards] with preparation and intent", says Andy Griffiths. It's important to think about how you can give investors opportunities to talk to non-execs, without undermining your executive team. Thrilled to have participated in the 2024 ASA NY Fair Value Conference! It was a day packed with insightful discussions and valuable learning opportunities. From understanding the nuances of risk in finance and investing to exploring the challenges of valuing technology assets, each session provided a deep dive into critical aspects of valuation practices. One highlight was the panel discussion led by industry leaders from the Big 4 firms, where pressing topics impacting practitioners were explored. Additionally, the session on ESG and Investor Returns shed light on the growing importance of ESG factors in valuation, reflecting the evolving regulatory landscape and investor expectations. Moreover, the sessions on critical valuation issues faced by alternative investment managers and valuing performance-based incentive units offered practical insights into navigating complex valuation challenges in today's market environment. Overall, the conference was a fantastic opportunity to gain knowledge, exchange ideas, and connect with fellow valuation professionals. Looking forward to implementing these insights in my practice and continuing to stay updated on the latest developments in the field of valuation.
