Today marks the first day of Disability Pride Month! This month, we honor the disability community's history, achievements, and experiences. July marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that was put into place in 1990. This landmark legislation broke down barriers to inclusion in society. Let's celebrate how far the disability community has come! We celebrate the equity and inclusion of all people. #DisabilityPrideMonth #Disability #EquityAndInclusion #Equity #Inclusion #ChooseCanteen

The passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was a major milestone toward providing everyone in the United States with a fair and just opportunity for health and wellbeing. It was the first legislation of its kind, outlawing discrimination against people living with physical or mental disabilities. Its 33rd anniversary is an opportunity for people, policymakers, and philanthropy to recommit to strongly supporting disability rights. By centering and amplifying voices from the disability community, learning together, and holding one another accountable, we can build a more inclusive future for all that is rooted in justice. If you work in Philanthropy please pledge your support. Because we all know that Laws alone won’t change our current reality, please follow ImpactEDI™ where more “Ways to Make Impact” will be posted soon. #disabilitypridemonth #nothingaboutuswithoutus #impactthatmatters #everyonesincluded #impactedi

Continuing our exploration of disability rights and accessibility, we want to consider the wider community's role. Organizations and individuals alike have the potential to make significant contributions toward ensuring equal access for people with disabilities, a civil right that cannot be overstated. So, let's pose this question: Are there any other ways that organizations or individuals can help support people with disabilities get access to their civil right of equal access? Your responses may offer novel solutions and inspire actions to foster a more accessible and inclusive society. https://lnkd.in/gQZfdSXG

We believe the government’s newly published Disability Action Plan has missed the opportunity to tackle the major issues facing young people with disabilities and their families. While we welcome the government’s commitment to consult with people with disabilities about the policies that impact their lives, it is disappointing that there are not more actions that will address the fundamental issues of support, inclusion and valuing people with disabilities across society. It's Disability Pride Month! Join us in celebrating diversity through disability. Learn from people with disabilities whose voices are loud and proud. You don't know what you don't know. One such person is Theo W. Braddy from the National Council on Independent Living. In the image below, he states: "Ableist ideas and beliefs affect people with disabilities in all aspects of life, including employment, healthcare, education, housing, transportation, etc. These ideas and beliefs create systems that discriminate and oppress people with disabilities." This quote originally appeared in Good Housekeeping in April 2024. How can YOU make a difference for people with disabilities today? #EastersealsWV #DisabilityPrideMonth #LearnSomethingNew

♿ This month is Disability Pride Month, a time when we celebrate, raise awareness and amplify the voices of disabled individuals. 💼 Over 20% of the working-age population are recognised as disabled, with barely half of those being employed. 🚀 We must embrace systems that empower EVERY skilled job seeker, not just a select few, to excel in meaningful work. 📢 This DPM, let us use our platforms to raise our voices and share the experiences of the disabled community. ➡️ Want to stand out as an Employer of Choice for your DEI efforts? 📢 July is Disability Pride Month! It includes the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act which passed on July 26, 1990 and is a time to recognize, celebrate, and honor the experiences of the disability community. 🖐 How do I do that as an ally? 👉 Being an ally could look like: - Becoming informed on local accessibility issues and advocating for change - Initiating more inclusive practices - Uplifting the voices of disabled folks sharing their experience - Learning more about the nuances of different disabilities - Breaking down your own bias and having related conversations with peers and family - Follow and engage with disability activists - Call out ableism and promote equity - And so much more! 🚨 Allyship and disability pride is not limited to one month, focus on sustainable practices that you can build on. #allyship #DisabilityPrideMonth

In July, we commemorate Disability Pride Month! Disability Pride Month was first recognized in 2015 by then-NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This annual observance promotes visibility and awareness of the positive pride felt by people with disabilities. The overall mission of Disability Pride Month is to help change the way people think about and define “disability,” to break down and end the internalized shame among people with disabilities, and to promote the belief that disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity in which people living with disabilities can take pride.
