🩸Your blood type isn’t just a number—it’s a key factor in medical emergencies. Whether you're in need of a transfusion or considering donating blood, understanding your blood type is crucial. 🩺 Some types, like O-, are universal donors, meaning they can be used by anyone, making them always in high demand. Certain blood types are also more common in specific ethnic groups. If you have a rare type or are a universal donor, consider donating today. ❤️ #BloodDonor #BloodType #Transfusions #HealthAwareness #SaveLives #TypeO- #WorldVisualized #VisualData #GlobalFacts #WorldData #DataVisualization #Charts #Statistics Source: worldatlas.com

If you are a registered organ and tissue you donor, one (or two) of the organs that you may be able to donate at the end of your life are your kidneys. Think of them like your body’s maid service—they’re responsible for getting rid of the waste and keeping your blood vessels super clean. Eighty-percent of people currently on Canada’s organ transplant waitlist are waiting specifically for a kidney. In Canada, the success rate for a kidney transplant from a living donor is 90–95% after one year and the transplanted kidney lasts 15 to 20 years on average. For transplants from a deceased donor, the success rate is also high: 85–90% of these kidneys are working well after one year and will last on average from 10 to 15 years. We like these odds—and so Canadians currently waiting for a kidney. Choose to leave well so that others can live well. https://lnkd.in/euepxqks Source: The Kidney Foundation of Canada #WorldKidneyDay #donateyourorgans #leavewell #livewell #organdonation

Kashif Iqbal, the child that faced thelassemia and couldn't live more than 14 years. Born in 1980, this little baby won't drink milk, had constant fevers. Thus, parents got worried. After getting so many of his tests done, they discovered Kashif had Thelassemia Major. What is thelassemia? Thelassemia is where the body does not make enough hemoglobin and to survive you need blood transfusions. For 14 years, Kashif faced this battle. Hence to find a cure, they traveled to Italy. With the biggest fund raising event that occurred at that time. A bone marrow transplant was the needed, hence due to Kashif having access iron it wasn't possible. An infusion pump got attached to Kashif's stomach, which reduced iron over months. Their journey continued to the United Kingdom, where sadly, Kashif's heart couldn't bear the burden of iron, and he passed away. In the midst of this heartbreak, Kashif's father Muhammad Iqbal decided to save children with thelassemia. In Kashif's memory, Muhammad Iqbal started an organization offering free support to Thalassemia patients. Kashif's story teaches us about strength in tough times and the impact we can make in the lives of others. Consider supporting Thalassemia awareness, or even better, donate blood. Together, we can bring hope to those facing challenges. And here's an important message: Before marriage, get Thalassemia tests done. Never forget, two Thalassemia minors should never marry to prevent passing on this condition to their children. P.s: Before this visit, I didn't even know what thelassemia is. I'm so glad that I went and got to learn so much. They even offered to get our blood tests done. This visit was a part of our university assignment. #Inspiration #ThalassemiaAwareness #StrengthInAdversity #PreventThalassemia

Today is #worldkidneyday. Most who know me, know that 6 years ago this coming May I had a Kidney Transpant thanks to my amazing sister. Many are not that lucky. 6 people a day die in the UK waiting for a working Kidney. Science continues to advance but Dialysis first used in the NHS 68 years ago is still the only escape from death many have to endure through renal failure. There is so much more to do. Have a read below and please consider donating to Kidney Research UK -> Far too many poeple are waiting for a transplant. Ensure you opt-in to organ donation, do that today here: https://lnkd.in/ete7sB3B -> high blood pressure aware and do not ignore the symptoms. The kidneys play a huge role and blood pressure changes can be a first indication of issues. -> The earlier it is caught, the better the chances for a transplant and to lengthen the kidney function.
