Moms First asked parents to fill this out, so we took the liberty of doing so on behalf of the 2,000 parents who told us how much they spend on child care — and the lengths they go to in order to afford it — in our 2024 Cost of Care Report. We stand with parents everywhere who need answers from officials on both sides of the aisle: What are your plans to solve the child care crisis? As Bryan Jamele reminds us, legislators have one constituency in common, and that’s parents. Click here to learn how to get involved: https://lnkd.in/gkVFKdRH

Did you know that the Dependent Care FSA limit of $5,000 has not been changed since it was created in 1986?(1) If adjusted for inflation, that would be $13,900 in 2024. A great start would be for Congress to update the Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account rules and index it to inflation. In 2022 the average cost of childcare was $14,768. Childcare is considered affordable by the US Department of Health and Human Services when it is "no more than seven percent of a family's income."(2) In 2022 US Family Households had a median income of $95K. Married-couple Families were higher at $115K, and "female-householder, no spouse present" families had a median income of $55K.(3) Sourcing: (1) https://lnkd.in/eUvVZQF4 (2) https://lnkd.in/eQKxmwre (3) https://lnkd.in/erZWYZev

What environmental factors are getting in the way of having accessible childcare? It matters how a system supports it's people through all stages of life. This includes starting and having families. Whether it's government or work, there needs to be support and clear inclusion for people that choose to have a family. Leaders expect prosperity of a country, state, city, company, etc. based on the work of it's people, and sacrifice of family-life does not have to be the only option. Usually the most engaged people are presented with the dilemma of family vs. work. How does this affect the now and future?
We recently shared the eye-opening news that child care costs more than rent in all 50 states, and we struck a chord. Sign the petition at the link below and let CNN know that moms will not stand by and let this issue be swept under the rug. ✍️ SIGN THE PETITION: https://lnkd.in/eSs8HFBt This is our moment for moms to be heard, and we need you to raise your voice.
