Recently had an incredible experience at the University of Technology Sydney's Autumn Graduate and Internship Career Fair! It was an enriching opportunity connecting with industry leaders, exploring various career paths, and expanding my professional network. One highlight of the event was having the pleasure of connecting with the esteemed industry professional Kim Evans from Aurecon. Our conversation was insightful and inspiring, offering valuable insights into the field and potential career paths. Events like these truly underscore the importance of attending career fairs at universities, especially for international postgraduate students like myself. Here's why: 1. Networking Opportunities: Career fairs provide an excellent platform to network with professionals from diverse industries. These connections can lead to valuable mentorships, internships, or even job offers. 2. Industry Insights: Interacting with industry professionals allows us to gain firsthand knowledge about the current trends, challenges, and opportunities in our respective fields. This insight is invaluable as we navigate our career paths. 3. Employment Opportunities: Many companies actively recruit talent from university career fairs. Attending these events increases our visibility to potential employers and enhances our chances of securing internships or full-time positions. 4. Skill Enhancement: Career fairs often feature workshops, seminars, and panel discussions aimed at enhancing our employability skills. Whether it's resume writing, interview preparation, or personal branding, these sessions equip us with the tools needed to succeed in the job market. Overall, the career fair was a fantastic learning experience, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have participated. A big thank you to UTS Careers and all the industry professionals who took the time to engage with us. Looking forward to applying the insights gained as I continue my professional journey! 🚀 #CareerFair #Networking #ProfessionalDevelopment #UTS

Akshay's experience at the Four Seasons booth exemplifies why career fairs are important to me. By showing initiative and finding common ground with the recruiter, he turned a potentially overwhelming situation into a successful internship opportunity. For job seekers, these events are perfect for showcasing and honing your people skills. My experiences reinforce this idea even for when a person's desired career is not represented. Despite often attending career fairs that didn't specifically cater to my field, I've found immense value in these events. They've served as platforms to expand my network and engage in meaningful interactions, breaking the solitude often associated with contemporary job searching. Moreover, these fairs have honed my ability to spot opportunities in crowded spaces and broadened my interests beyond my initial focus. The conversations and opportunities that stick with me were at recruitment tables that did not have long lines in front of them, where I had time to fully have a conversation about what the company was looking for and how I could still volunteer with them, even if I was not right for the role. Building on Akshay's insights, remember that common courtesy often wins the day. By practicing good manners like offering assistance, actively listening, and sending follow-up emails, you can create lasting impressions that may lead to unexpected opportunities, regardless of your specific career interests. Career fairs are ultimately about personal growth and discovering new possibilities. Don't be afraid to jump in!
How I Landed My Internship at The Four Seasons in 5 minutes My first career fair at NYU was overwhelming. Long lines, intense energy, and a lot of nervous faces. How was I supposed to compete with smarter students than I? At the Four Seasons booth, I didn’t start pitching myself right away. I asked the recruiter if the day was was stressful for her as it was for me. I offered to help fold up the table cloth and wrap up the banner. As we did, she shared about the internship and prioritized my resume. I actually got the internship! But found an even better opportunity later on. You don’t have to be loud or aggressive to stand out at a career fair. It’s about finding common ground, and being confident in your approach. Here are ways to crush it at career fairs, even if you are shy: 1 - Show initiative by offering assistance. 2 - Ask recruiters about their experiences. 3 - Send personalized emails after the fair. 4 - Arriving early and engage when its quiet. 5 - Do your homework by researching companies. Create lasting impressions and turn career fairs into real opportunities. If you're feeling shy or overwhelmed, remember—you’re not alone. What's your most memorable career fair experience? P.S. Want to know how I turned this approach into a Digital Marketing Internship at The Four Seasons? Let's connect!

K-Youth Development Program Trainee | Double Major Graduate University of Nottingham | BSc Hons of Mathematics and Management
[Learning how to utilise the career fair] . It's always a stress when it comes to talking about 'what do you want to do after graduation' especially when you're a final year student. However, having a clear goal and proper planning is truly important so that we know how to ensure a better life. Recently, I have attended UNM Careers & Internship fair held by UNM Careers to look for a full time job after graduation this June in sya allah. Here are some points that I feel like sharing from my experience: 1. Prepare before coming to any career fair - In UNM, I am truly grateful that UNM Careers actually organised pre-career fair series to help us prepare - for example, CV preparation, pitch about yourself. Besides, I would say in order to make the fair be helpful for you, it's important to have a clear thought about what do you want to do, what are you eyeing for, what expectation/principles that you have for working. 2. Ask & Discuss - Something that I just realised that sometimes it's fine to be flexible in what do you want to do for your career. As for me, since I am doing a double major degree (BSc of Mathematics & Management), sometimes I feel like I try to fit in the society expectations that the great jobs for us are data related jobs with the name 'Analyst' in the job description haha! 😂 However when I was talking to some of the booths representatives yesterday, I got some insights on what other area that I can go - for example, risk management, financial planning & digital technologies. 3. Be proud about yourself - I don't mean to actually bribe or anything, it's just that sometimes we just be 'humble' about ourselves. However, there are possibilities that the quality in us becomes a 'competitive advantage' that attracts the company to hire us. Yesterday, I was being honoured and grateful to be given an opportunity to have a short interview with one of the managers at the booth. To be honest, I didn't even expect that the managers would attend the career fair as usually we'll be meeting the HR at the booth. I am happy to be given supportive comments by the manager about the importance of interpersonal skills in work life. 4. Remember to take the contacts - Feel free to connect to the companies social media & ask for their card so that you can follow up and keep in touch. I am happy that I can still meet up with some of the HR that I met during my internship application process (although I actually failed before!) They suggested me to reapply and I am happy to leave an impression about myself to the recruiters. Anyways thank you UNM Careers for organising such event! It's very helpful that I even take a better picture since they provided the LinkedIn picture taking services hihi! Road to graduation 🎓 Can't wait for better opportunities! #opportunities #lessonslearned #careerfair2024

Do College Career Fairs Really Help Recruit Quality Interns? Answers: https://lnkd.in/dqyYxBsG #CareerFairs #InternRecruitment #Hospitality Hey everyone! 👋 So, here’s the dilemma we’re facing at my company: We’re thinking about hitting up some college career fairs to recruit interns for next summer, but I’m not sure if it’s really worth the effort. Here’s the deal: Past Experiences: Some managers swear by these events, saying they've had decently successful hires in the past. But realistically, they usually walk away with only 20-25 resumes and often end up hiring just one intern a year from those fairs. 🤔 Visibility Argument: Their reasoning is that attending these fairs boosts our visibility with students, which could lead to more online applications later. Budget Concerns: Our finance director is pushing back big time on the travel and hotel costs since interns rarely become year-round employees. And let’s be real, in our seasonal hospitality business, that’s not really our main goal. Cost vs. Benefit: While the cost of attending might seem low comparatively, we’re under pressure from the board to keep expenses in check this year. So, I’m curio...
