🔥 The Gender Pay Gap in Tech: A Burning Issue 🔥 Despite strides towards gender equality, the gender pay gap remains a persistent issue, particularly in the tech industry. Studies reveal that women in tech still earn significantly less than their male counterparts, with the gap widening as they progress in their careers. 📉 What's fueling this gap? Factors such as unconscious bias in hiring and promotion, lack of transparency in salary negotiations, and systemic barriers to advancement play a significant role. 🚀 It's time for action. Companies must prioritize pay equity by conducting regular pay audits, promoting transparency in salary structures, and implementing inclusive hiring and promotion practices. Additionally, fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion is crucial for creating an environment where all employees can thrive. 💡 As advocates for change, let's continue to raise awareness, challenge biases, and advocate for policies that promote gender equality in the tech sector. Together, we can bridge the gap and build a more equitable future for all. #GenderPayGap #WomenInTech #Equality #DiversityandInclusion #TechIndustry #PayEquity #GenderEquality #Empowerment

Why is it important to address gender equality in the workplace? It’s a question we wish we didn’t get asked, but it’s also one that gives us the chance to share why this work is so important. Here goes… 📣 Organisations often reflect the trends and stereotypes happening in broader society. This makes them key settings for transformative change, and a great place to take greater responsibility for equality within ourselves, our relationships, our teams, and our communities. 📣 In our current economic system, we spend a significant portion of our lives at work. Humans are also not compartmentalised robots, where we can have a perfectly defined and separate ‘work life’ and ‘life life’. Therefore, to have organisations be unequal places where people cannot fulfil their potential is to accept that the rest of the world will be like that too. 📣 The current lack of equality — in all its forms — in the workplace, and outside of it, is not only unfair and unjust; it is bad business. If we want to see intersectional gender equality in our lifetimes (and we do), then we need to get to work, in every sense. After decades of doing this work, we believe that workplaces are where we — as practitioners — can make the most impact and accelerate a world where everyone can access and enjoy equal resources and opportunities, regardless of gender. Need us to convince someone in your workplace? Send us a message and we’ll do it for you! → hello@genderworks.com.au

Smartspace.ai & GOVERNANCE4 ~ Fractional Client Engagement | Community Builder | People & Culture | Technology | MC | Mental Health Advocate
At the CIO Leaders Summit, Jamaine Naicker raised the point that remote working was used by a substantially higher portion of women 72%, than men 58%, enabling more women to be in the workforce. It struck me that with all the initiatives such as IWD Day, that in this case, tech was a great enabler having a positive consequence on gender equality when it was initially put in place to solve covid. During the QnA I asked if tech can further drive gender equality by nature of changing how we work, just as hybrid working did? We think it's a question we can all look at to find where tech or things for one purpose are enabling another. I learned of misogyny through witnessing it not just hearing about it, and always deemed it unfair, unjust and wrong which is why I've ran IWD events and other initiatives supporting the required change myself. So I was impressed when Mike Parsons asked to contribute after Jamaine. Adding a conscientious contribution before Pravin Mudaliar introduces the next question, beautifully sharing all the aspects we all hope every man contemplates about gender equality in the work place. It's a seperate lesson related to this subject, as it's typically covered at an IWD type gender equality event which are not well atteded by men (who typically refrain from attending as they feel it's for women) missing an important education in the process. Added to this, when Roxanne Salton, MInstD and I traveled to the event on the first day, we chatted about this very problem still existing today and I believe it's handed down through generations and our culture - Granddad or Dad jokes about it in front of the Grandkids/kids and they learn the behaviour. Remember we are the standard we walk past and it starts at home where we are our most relaxed.
