🥙 🤼 Making a Difference with Everybody Eats! Something close to my heart is giving back & when I find opportunities to do so with the added benefit of a greener outcome, I am keen to get involved. This week our Custom Crew at Custom Fleet had the privilege of volunteering with Everybody Eats, a pay-as-you-feel dining concept for everyone. We worked both in the front and back of house service teams supporting the evenings food service. We left feeling inspired by their mission of 'Feeding Bellies not Bins' and all in all couldn't have gotten more out of the experience, to the customers, fellow volunteers and Everybody Eats team - thanks! Everybody Eats is focused on tackling three main problems: 1- Too much food - Humans waste around one-third of the food we produce. 1.3 Billion tonnes of perfectly good food, worth over One Trillion dollars. 2 - Not enough food - At the same time over one billion people are going hungry. Recent studies show that in New Zealand 1 in 6 people don't have enough to eat. 3 - Disconnected - Communities are increasingly fragmented. We don't know our neighbours anymore. Here's something to chew on: Chewy's community engagement. 🐾 Chances are you have encountered one of the many heartwarming Chewy customer service stories. Whether it is stories of the flowers they send to families who have lost their pets or helping elderly/sick pets enjoy their last Christmas, Chewy knows how to show appreciation for their community. My personal favorite so far has been their Chewy Claus campaign. Essentially, pet owners were encouraged to fill out a letter to Chewy Claus. Was your pet naughty or nice? With every letter "sent," Chewy donated a pound of food on your behalf. The letter also asked the pets to make a wish and choose if they would like to receive food or toys. You could also opt to have more fun donated instead. If you were lucky, your wish was fulfilled, or you received a gift. Chewy announced that their 2023 Chewy Claus donated 300,000 pounds of food and supplies to pets in need. That's a lot of letters, AKA engagement. Here are a few reasons why I enjoyed this campaign: -It is shareable and interactive. Pet owners received a copy of their pet's letter in their email. The letter was endearing and a keepsake. I shared mine on Instagram. -It used the power of community to make a difference. At our core, we thrive when we help others.  -It used our love for our furry friends against us in the best way.  -It was relevant to the holiday season but stood out amongst the usual influx of 30% of campaigns. -It is cute and fun. Creating a local hive mind takes work, time and commitment... ... and it pays off 100X over! Last week I met up with our Non-traditional Education Leaders Networking Group and we all kept saying how thankful we were for the members. Many years ago, I pulled together this group across our local education landscape. It includes a variety of organization... but a singular focus to provide learning for our community. We don't compete for audiences, we don't keep secrets about best practices, and we definitely don't shy away from tackling difficult issues to give suggestions for change in each other's organizations or businesses (hello COVID and meeting on a weekly basis to navigate it at a nonprofit!). We are a support group of sorts, we are information sharers, we are troubleshooters, and we are the contacts we know will always answer a quick email from each other. If you don't have a group like this.... MAKE ONE!! Here are a few ideas of organizations to include that ALL have education departments. (and a generalize list of who's involved in our group) * Environmental centers * Zoo * Art Museum * Children's Museum * Library system * County based museums * National Park System * Botanical Garden * Animal Welfare organization * Public Television Station * Historic Homes * Education Consultants * STEAM education organizations * Science Museum * County Government (Waste Managment, Parks and Rec, etc) * Centers for the Arts * 4H There are so many options. Get out there and work the network, tap into the hive mind, set up some reoccurring meetings, and glean a wealth of information and support! #professionalnetworking #likeminds #education #empowermentgroup #inspiredimpact

Children's growth depends on socialization and enjoyment. This summer is a great chance to spend some time with our little ones participating in activities that will benefit them in all areas, especially communication, cooperation, and teamwork. Here are some fun-filled suggestions for an awesome summer: Outdoor Sports and Exploration: Play sports like basketball, tennis, baseball, or soccer to develop teamwork and fitness. Go hiking, fishing, and toast marshmallows while camping for lasting memories. Enjoy scavenger hunts, park walks, or visits to botanical gardens and wildlife reserves. Arts, Crafts, Baking, and Cooking: Create a space for arts and crafts where kids can express their creativity through DIY projects, painting, sculpting, or drawing. Also, encourage children to participate in the kitchen by baking or cooking simple recipes. Reading: Visit the local library for storytimes, book groups, or summer reading programs. Volunteering: Inspire children to engage in volunteer work or community service, such as park cleanups, visits to assisted living facilities, or helping at animal shelters. Happy Friday, everyone! I am so proud to be working alongside so many talented Seeing Eye Dogs trainers and devoted volunteers...but we are facing some uphill battles ahead. According to the SEEK Volunteer Report 2023: There is a rising demand for volunteers by community organisations, with volunteering opportunities having increased by 7% year-on-year, after a 3% increase the year prior. Organisations asking for a minimum six-month commitment attract less than one application per opportunity. Volunteers are more than twice as likely to apply for one-off volunteering opportunities in preference to longer-term commitments.  In Victoria, opportunities increased by 12% but there was only a 1% increase in applications. And this report sums up what we are experiencing too at Seeing Eye Dogs. So, on this Friday, I would ask my dog-loving friends to take a moment to consider volunteering with Seeing Eye Dogs for the next 6 to 12 months, and to open your home to a future dog guide. for all our dog lovers out there, Do not feed stray dogs anywhere you feel like. Yes, you heard us right. While it's absolutely great to be feeding them, there are specific guidelines you should be following when you do so. Here are some quick ones, you can keep in mind : • feed strays at designated areas • don't feed dogs in among the crowd or in a group of children around. • don't feed all the dogs at the same place. • don't force a pup to eat. feed them as much as they wish. • be kinder at all times. Make sure you take these necessary precautions and you're all set to go.
