Great op-ed in the #GlobeandMail from one of our great partners, Carolyn Steele Gray, Canada Research Chair in Implementing #DigitalHealth #Innovation at the Science of Care Institute and Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Sinai Health Canada. Here are some key messages: ⭐ “Care co-ordination requires a collaborative approach, with patients, caregivers and clinicians all working in tandem with the managers and leaders guiding the process, and with the organizations and provincial bodies funding, regulating and governing the system”. ⭐ ”For co-ordination to really occur, information not only needs to be available, but it needs to be understandable by those who read it (including patients), while being available when it is required, and actually fitting in with how our already-overtaxed clinicians and health staff do their work". ⭐ ”There is an opportunity to use this momentum to set up partnerships, funding models, care delivery networks and engagement strategies to ensure information sharing actually leads to the proper co-ordination of care for Canadians”. We support Dr. Steele Gray’s position that while Bill C-72 is a step in the right direction, on its own, it is not sufficient to help with co-ordinating care. It helps address only one key factor of coordination: information sharing. Bill C-72, the Connected Care for Canadians Act, was introduced in June by Health Minister Mark Holland. This Act is designed to allow Canadians secure access to their health data, thereby empowering patients to make informed decisions and enhancing the quality of care they receive from healthcare providers. To read more about her op-ed, please click here: https://lnkd.in/gRVaJXr3 This topic is core to our mission to improve coordinated care and thereby patient outcomes by providing an easy-to-use platform that streamlines communication between primary care providers, patients and their caregivers. We focus on that goal in our joint Care Connector project with Digital Bridge and our partners, Sinai Health System and Trillium Health Partners that improves care transitions from hospital to home using digital technologies.

Welcome to our NurseFusion "Sunday Spotlight"! Let's talk about Healthcare in Queensland with CEQ's Innovative Drive Towards Excellence. Is healthcare in Queensland on the brink of a transformation? Clinical Excellence Queensland (CEQ) is spearheading a movement to overhaul clinical and operational systems, promising a new era of enhanced patient care and efficiency. 🎯 Innovating Patient Care Clinical Excellence Queensland is at the forefront of healthcare innovation, collaborating with Hospital and Health Services to implement best-practice standards. Initiatives like the Retcam network and the Way Forward program are shining examples of how CEQ is leading the charge in delivering culturally secure mental health and addiction services, particularly for the First Nations community. 💪 Empowering Healthcare Providers Beyond patient care, CEQ's strategy includes empowering healthcare providers through programs like Advancing Kidney Care 2026 and expanded scopes of practice for Allied Health professionals. Telehealth services are also being enhanced to improve patient outcomes and provide more efficient, timely care. 🔎 Spotlight on the BaSCI Project The Statewide Brain and Spinal Cord Injury (BaSCI) Project is a standout initiative that underscores CEQ’s commitment to accessible specialist care. The project has notably reduced waiting times for spinal cord injury care, showcasing the tangible benefits of these healthcare innovations. To expand these vital specialised rehabilitation services across Queensland, $24 million in funding was received from the Commonwealth Community Health and Hospitals Program (CHHP) in 2020. Under CEQ’s guidance, Queensland Health is not just improving healthcare services but is redefining them to meet the evolving needs of its population. These efforts underline a commitment to a healthcare system that is both patient-centred and efficient, setting a benchmark for others to follow. #technology #healthcare #leadershipexcellence #nursefusion #consultancy

In this episode of HealthIMPACT Live and Digital Health Talks, Megan Antonelli and Janae Sharp discuss five good things happening in the healthcare industry: https://lnkd.in/g4RHkf5J The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is considering banning non-compete agreements for physicians and healthcare workers, which the American Medical Association supports. This could provide more flexibility for physicians in their employment choices. The American Medical Association (AMA) is evaluating new codes for remote patient monitoring (RPM) that could increase reimbursement for these services by 2025, making it easier for providers to offer RPM to patients. A recent study shows that the rates of uninsured Americans are lower than they have been in a long time, possibly due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). However, disparities still exist between states and demographics. The Women's Health Access Matters organization and KPMG have initiated a $1.1 million partnership to advance women's health, focusing on research, investment, and ensuring accurate representation of women in clinical trials. The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) conference was May 5-7 in Phoenix, Arizona, where attendees learned about the latest developments in telemedicine and remote patient monitoring. Megan and Janae also discuss the upcoming HealthIMPACT Forum on June 12-13 in New York City and the Sharp Index Awards, which recognize leaders and programs supporting mental health for healthcare workers. Nominations for the awards are open until the end of May. Join us in June! https://lnkd.in/gben4Ape Nominate a leader here: https://lnkd.in/eg7sNJ7 #HealthIMPACT #DigiHealthTalks #SharpIndexAwards #RPM #noncompete #FTC

Research shows our integrated electronic Medical Record (ieMR) solution has benefited the health system. 🎉 The ieMR is a digital solution that replaces paper-based health records, allowing healthcare professionals to update and share health information securely and seamlessly across the state. Researchers have conducted one of the largest longitudinal analyses to assess the impact of ieMR implementation in Queensland Health hospitals on real-world health system outcomes. Their findings show a: ⬇️ 12.87 % decline in medication complications ⬇️ 14.27 % reduction in hospital acquired infections. There were no unexpected negative impacts on the outcomes measured. The authors say these findings are encouraging and should provide confidence to healthcare decision-makers investing in digital health. ❤️ We’re continuing to deliver these benefits through the rollout of the ieMR across the state, with the solution now available at over 50 Queensland Health facilities. Congratulations to the teams involved in the most recent go lives at Proserpine Hospital and Whitsunday Community Clinic, within our ieMR Hub and Spoke Project. The Hub and Spoke Project is delivering ieMR functionality at more than 30 peripheral sites (spokes) where their main hospital (hub) is already live with the system. 👏 For more information on the study and benefits of ieMR, head here: https://lnkd.in/gvwR9UWZ

No wonder PCPs are tired 😩! A recent letter in JAMA Health Forum shows that primary care physicians (PCPs) in #valuebasedcontracts are expected to meet an average of 57 (!) different quality measures, which can vary across payers. Having trained and worked at NYU Langone Health 💜, a leader in value-based care, I’ve seen firsthand how quality measures improve care while reducing costs. However, to achieve this nationally, we need policies, processes, and systems that keep humanism at the center of healthcare. Here are three ideas to kick off the discussion: 1) Streamlining Quality Measures ⭐: Health policy should continue to streamline quality measures that promote #preventivecare and advance #healthequity. The CMS "Universal Foundation" is a step in the right direction. It focuses on key health concerns like diabetes, hypertension, and cancer, while emphasizing high-quality preventive care and care coordination. This helps healthcare organizations focus on the measures that will have the most significant impact on health outcomes, moving us toward proactive, not reactive, healthcare. 2) Leveraging Health Technology 💻: At NYU, we constantly sought ways to use technology to provide high-quality, cost-efficient care. #Healthtech, when thoughtfully implemented, should enhance care team workflows, not disrupt them. This allows healthcare professionals to focus on human connection—whether with patients or team members—during critical moments. With proper integration, health tech can help bring humanism back into healthcare. 3) Empowering Patients 💪: Current quality measures often overlook the patient’s role in their own care. Even in an ideal healthcare system, patients must make decisions about their care, and many face barriers to following recommendations. Being an #activeparticipant in your care is a learned skill, yet it’s not often taught. Patients are expected to manage their care while dealing with health challenges and the demands of everyday life. We must find ways to support patients in becoming active participants in their healthcare journey. 👉 What are your thoughts? How can we sustainably scale value-based care and support clinical care teams? Oh, and here's the link to that JAMA piece 📑: https://lnkd.in/eQNQCkih
