Dr Fran is dedicated to transforming trauma care across Queensland. 🙌 Traumatic events are a major reason for hospital visits in Australia, causing about 12,000 deaths each year. Most patients come in after falls (40%) or injuries from transportation (13%). Injuries in rural and remote areas are linked to higher rates of serious outcomes. Dr Fran works as an Emergency Doctor and Senior Medical Officer for the Queensland Ambulance Service. She also helps lead training at the Jamieson Trauma Institute and is the Trauma Education Director for Queensland. As the new Deputy Director of Trauma Services at the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital Foundation, Dr Fran is ready to take on her next challenge. She will work to enhance trauma care, collaborate with healthcare teams, oversee staff training, and analyse data to improve patient outcomes across Queensland. 'I want to ensure that whether you're in the city or out in rural areas, everyone has access to the best trauma care possible,' she said. Outside of saving lives and shaping the future, she balances her passion for medicine with raising two young kids. Thank you, Dr Fran, for your unwavering dedication to trauma services in Queensland. We're very lucky to have you! 🥰 Via Metro North Health ℹ Sources: Queensland Trauma Education. About QTE.

POV: It's 8pm on a Sunday night and you're answering a few quick work emails. Or you've just said yes to an extra shift, when you really wanted to say no. Relatable? Then it's time to set yourself some clear boundaries between your work and personal life. By doing this, you'll have less stress and anxiety, and be less likely to experience overwhelm and burnout. It'll also keep your blood pressure stable, improve your sleep, give you more energy and improve your personal relationships. 😊 Try some of these tips to help set some boundaries: ⌚ define your work hours (and stick to them) ✉️ turn off your work email out of hours — use an auto-reply stating when you're available 📵 mute notifications on your work devices out of hours 💬 let your co-workers know when you're going to be unavailable 🙅 say no to extra work if you don't have the energy 🚶 take regular breaks — eat a healthy snack or go for a walk. You may need to check with your manager to make sure these don't impact on your employment arrangements. If they do, you may be able to work together to come up with other solutions. If you're struggling with stress and anxiety at work, speak to your manager and healthcare provider, or call Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636. ☎️ ℹ️ Sources: Cleveland Clinic (2023). Dane loves being an advocate for First Nations Peoples to help improve health outcomes. 🌟 As a Principal Policy and Planning Officer with the First Nations Health Office, he supports Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) to deliver programs to First Nations Peoples as part of the Making Tracks program. 'I work with all the HHSs between Cairns and the Sunshine Coast, helping them with funding, budgets, policy and much more so they can keep these important programs running,' Dane said. While Dane spends a bit of time in the Brisbane office, he also gets to hit the road to visit each HHS and meet with their program leaders. This includes meetings with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community leaders to hear directly from them about any gaps that need to be met in their communities. 💬 'The health system is so big, so it's great to help these services navigate the system and be a point of contact for them. I also see it as my responsibility to act as that conduit between the community and service providers to advocate for what's needed,' he said. While making an impact in health is a big drawcard for Dane, he also appreciates being part of such a supportive work team. 🥰 'I love coming to work, it really does feel like a family! It's a privilege to be part of this office doing the work we do. The leadership have done such a great job fostering a supportive and friendly environment,' he said. Thank you, Dane! It's great to hear about all you and your team are doing to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ access to, and experience in, the health system. ❤️ Want to see what an average day is like for Dane? Maddison, a proud Torres Strait Islander woman from Cairns, has been named 2024 Graduate Midwife of the Year at the Australian College of Midwives awards. 🎖️ Her work at Innisfail Hospital has helped to create a First Nations Midwifery Group Practice, which provides the same midwife or midwives during pregnancy, labour, birth and after the birth. 'Engagement (among First Nations patients) now is so high,' she said. 'Word of mouth spreads fast that there are good people at the hospital and it's okay to go to the hospital.' Innisfail Hospital Maternity Unit Manager, Tasmine expressed her team's excitement and pride in Maddison's national award. 'She is constantly praised by her peers and wider community on the impact she has had in creating positive outcomes for our First Nations women, babies and families,' Tasmine said. Maddison’s support was key in co-designing and launching the inaugural First Nations Midwifery Group Practice model in an endeavour to ensuring more culturally responsive care for families. After an impressive 30-year career at Townsville University Hospital, Dr Robert, the Clinical Director of Microbiology, is now embarking on his well-deserved retirement. 🧬🔬💙 Throughout his career Dr Robert has made countless important diagnoses that have helped the Townsville community. He reflected on the depth of experience he gained and credited his patients for supporting his growth as a doctor. Chloe's pulse races every day doing her job, but she loves the fast-paced environment. 🌟 As an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD), Chloe ensures swift and efficient responses to Triple Zero (000) calls. 📲 🚑 EMDs answer emergency calls, provide information and instruction to callers to talk them through emergencies, dispatch Queensland Ambulance Service resources, and coordinate patient transport movements. 'You never know who'll be on the other end of the phone, or what they're going through, so you have to be able to think quickly,' Chloe said. 'If it was my family member asking for help, I'd want them to get the best care possible. So that's how I treat everyone who calls in. I love providing help to people and supporting my community.' Over the past 18 months, Dave has been a telechemotherapy superstar in his fight against cancer, thanks to the exceptional services at the Cooktown Oncology Day Unit! 🩺💻 This telehealth (video call) service connects patients with their oncology (cancer care) team through two-way video calls. This makes it easier to access chemotherapy treatment closer to home. Cairns serves as the main hub for rural satellite chemotherapy sites, with Cooktown being one of those sites. For Dave, this approach has made a big difference in his journey. 🥰 'Treatment is draining and having the worry and cost of an 8-hour return trip from Cooktown to Cairns, finding suitable accommodation for myself, my wife and our two fur children adds to an already difficult time,' Dave said. 'Telehealth (video call) has saved me having to take trips to Cairns for consults for my 3 weeks on, 1 week off chemotherapy treatment.' 'The team in Cairns (in particular Sally, pictured on the telehealth screen below) and the team in Cooktown have been amazing and I am extremely grateful for the telehealth (video call) service.’ In rural and remote areas of Queensland, telehealth is transforming healthcare by reducing travel costs and time, allowing patients to focus more on their well-being and loved ones. 🙌 A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated Cairns teleoncology team, the Cooktown Oncology Day Unit team, and telehealth staff across Queensland for your unwavering commitment to patient care! ❤️ Looking for easier ways to access healthcare? Ask your healthcare provider if telehealth (video call) could work for you! #telehealthawarenessweek #trytelehealth
