Isolated creatine and caffeine supplementation increased performance. Previously already reported. For a better understanding: "If creatine increases performance by 1.5%, and bicarbonate by 1%, does that add up to a 2.5% increase in performance?" No additive effects using creatine+caffeine, creatine+bicarbonate, and creatine+caffeine+bicarbonate. An interesting topic covered in detail in our Sport Nutrition 4th edition textbook published earlier this year by Human Kinetics
Interesting, both creatine and sodium bicarbonate doses were quite correct, around 24g for an 80kg athlete. I find a bit strange that sodium bicarbonate didn't provide any benefit at all, as this has been proven, in other studies. The effect of caffeine is something that we need to understand by now that is totally overrated, unless athletes do an specific protocol where they stop caffeine intake for many days before competing. Even that doing that, they might risk caffeine intolerance. Caffeine is a good placebo and probably good for concentration, but the performance effects are very minimal as daily caffeine intake is very common.
