Benefits of hospice doulas include: 🫶 Increased quality of care for patients and families in their final days 🏥 Reduced disparities in hospice care for underserved communities (rural, LGBTQ+, etc.). ⌛ More time and support at the bedside compared to hospice staff with time constraints. 🫂 Diverse doula workforce that can better connect with patients from various backgrounds Death doulas provide support to people nearing death and their loved ones, working alongside (not replacing) hospice or palliative care teams. As nurses, we can make a difference by fostering inclusivity and understanding. Here are five ways to embrace Pride Month: 1. Educational Lunch-and-Learns: Host sessions on LGBTQ+ health disparities and diversity. Invite guest speakers to equip staff with knowledge for compassionate care. 2. Rainbow Decor and Dress Days: Wear rainbow pins and decorate workspaces. Show visible support for diversity and acceptance. 3. Volunteer for LGBTQ+ Health Initiatives: Engage actively by volunteering at LGBTQ+ clinics or community centers. Understand their needs and demonstrate empathy. 4. Pride-Themed Wellness Activities: Organize yoga or mindfulness sessions. Discuss LGBTQ+ health topics like stress management and discrimination. 5. Year-Round Support: Extend inclusivity beyond June.
