She shared insights from her participation in Johns Hopkins Hospital “A Woman’s Journey” event meant to represent all women’s health topics. The conversation highlighted the silence around #widowhood as a critical issue in women’s health only when she stood up and brought it to their attention. “As a Widow Advocate, she took a bold step forward, questioning a panel of esteemed women’s health specialists about who among them could claim expertise in the nuances of widowhood. This revealed a startling oversight: even in environments presumed to be inclusive, #widowhood often leads to social exclusion, underscoring the need for broader recognition and discussion within the realm of women’s health.” Losing a spouse is the #1 most stressful life event and yet, the medical industry is beyond behind in serving widows with appropriate care because women’s health research is beyond behind. Widows pay the awful price because this societal issue is vastly forgotten. Widow advocacy is here to stay at Modern Widows Club. We will not stop until widows rights are respected and change happens in perpetuity. 🌟 Key Takeaways from the Modern Widows Club Widow Supporter Webinar Today🌟 Grateful for the opportunity to discuss Modern Widows Club | The Movement for Widow Care (MWC) initiatives and explore how #faith communities can better support widows. Here are some important insights: 🔹 Only 34% of widows in our survey of 6500 widows report receiving sufficient support from places of worship—highlighting the urgent need for more focused faith based care and resources. Seminary training and U.S. faith based universities do not have widow focused curriculum, even though James 1:27 clearly states Christian followers true religion is to care for the #fatherless AND #widows. 🔹 Widows face a range of challenges, including diet changes, major financial changes, health insurance challenges, home and car maintenance, sleep issues (for them and their children), spiritual faithfulness, social participation (community, neighborhood, workplace, family and places of worship), finding belonging, feeling confident and simple meal preparation. It's vital that faith communities step up to meet these needs. 🔹 Increased budget and resource allocation is needed to address the growing #widow population and ensure comprehensive, consistent support. 🔹 Above all, finding a safe, nonjudgmental, compassionate space to share personal stories and fostering supportive communities are key to widows' healing and growth. Why Focus on Women and Widows? The mission of Modern Widows Club is to transform the future for widows, a group of women particularly vulnerable following the loss of their spouses. This initiative is essential because widows play a critical role in our families and communities. However, the challenge #widows face extends beyond the immediate aftermath and the grief support typically offered for a year or two. Beyond this period, resources become scarce, leaving a gap in support for these women as they strive to navigate their lives post-loss. Our goal is to bridge this gap with evidence-based programs designed to foster positive outcomes and help widows chart a path toward healing and growth. What we offer is innovative and vital, even if not widely understood. Within our organization, widows have found a crucial support network, often referring to it as their lifeline. Their experiences and insights guide our work, making them the true experts on what is needed during the acute, immediate, and long-term phases of widowhood. Session on Trauma and Public Engagement in Placemaking: If a neighborhood consistently expresses Trauma during community engagement, we have to stop asking "what is your vision" and "what would you like to see to improve the community." Instead, we need to begin asking "share your memories of the community" and purposely document these, so you can focus on restoration, and heal fractured and wounds. A major part of the restoration of the fractured city lies in the transformation of the non place into a meaningful place. Here is the best path: • Start with memory • Document the memories and observations • Restore the center, the edges, and the connections • Respect the many levels of place • Do all that with style #placemakingweek
