TRAIN TO THE BAROSSA In 2014, I went to the World Cup in Brazil to support Australia and was fortunate to see one of the best goals of the World Cup by Tim Cahill against the Netherlands. On our return trip to Australia, we went to San Francisco and went on the Napa Valley Wine Train. Now, to get onto the Napa Valley Wine Train, the quickest way is to drive for approximately an hour to connect with the Napa Valley Wine Train. When I returned to Australia, a colleague and I started to re-explore the opportunity to have the Barossa Regional Wine Train and developed the attached concept in more detail in 2016. What excited me was being involved in the last stage of the Adelaide Convention Centre Development; I could imagine some 3000 delegates walking out of the convention centre, getting on a Train that would take them to one of the most highly prized wine regions in the world, without having to drive: in just under 90 mins —enhancing the whole experience. There are very few places in the world that could offer this. Further, this would also align with the projected population growth /HOUSING demand and enable the expansion of rail services to Nuriootpa, servicing the excellent tourism opportunity and providing an expanded rail passenger service. For various reasons, we haven't embraced rail. Is it time to embrace rail? With Gather Round being such a success and AFL football now going to the Barossa, imagine going there by train. I also plan to go to football at Mt Barker by train one day. Dreams are great and become even more astounding when they become reality. #rail #tourism #infrastructure #housing

Last Friday, 20th September, I had the privilege, alongside Cailey Coles and Hazel Rippey, to attend the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors (NZIBS) 30th Anniversary Annual Conference. Not only did we attend, but the three of us were on a panel alongside Keiran Reid. We were there to represent Keystone New Zealand Property Education Trust; discussing what Keystone Trust is, how valuable they are to tertiary students and the themes of resilience, inter-generation and change. In the 30 minutes before we spoke on the panel, Keiran Reid delivered a speech regarding resilience, the power and nature of the human brain, and adapting. Listening to an All Black legend speak about his background and experience on what some would say one of the highest-pressure environments, the international rugby stage, was truly eye opening. What was particularly valuable was hearing about his early rugby days when fresh out of college, the struggles that came along with it, the sacrifices and the highs and lows. It reminded me that all career paths, including my own, have moments of hardship and perseverance both on and off the field. These words were reassuring as I'm nearing the start of navigating the early stages of my professional journey, facing similar uncertainties and the need to make sacrifices to achieve long-term goals. When asked by MC Peter Wolkamp if I had a question for Keiran, I asked, “Understanding that you faced many roadblocks such as injuries along your early rugby days, what kept a positive attitude in you?” Keiran answered along the lines of; “It is always important to have a wide lens when looking at what your future may be and what is also currently in front of you. When there are opportunities in front of you, you should put as much effort in as possible.” Keiran mentioning the phrase “wide lens” was what stood out to me, the importance of taking a broad view of opportunities and possibilities for the future. As easy as it is to focus on the immediate concerns or challenges, it is useful to be open to different paths and think strategically rather than getting caught up in short-term thinking. His experiences reinforced the idea that resilience and dedication are key to growth, both in sport and in any profession.

Great article on the opportunity to invest further in Galway and Limerick. But let's not forget Ennis! The implementation of the Ennis 2040 Economic & Spatial Strategy is critical for Ennis. The town needs to strengthen its role as a key regional economic driver and major tourist destination in the Mid-West and not be overlooked. https://lnkd.in/eK2NenPf
