Where were you 10 years ago? On January 27, 2014 was published in Nature Portfolio Communications a groundbreaking article on #laminin521. 🎉 Rodin et al. 2014 described for the first time the improved derivation and survival of #hPSC on human recombinant #fulllength laminin proteins, by re-creating in the human embryonic stem cells microenvironment of the blastocyst inner cell mass. From all the substrates tested, only laminin 521 supported long-term self-renewal of the cells in completely defined and xeno-free environment and their efficient clonal expansion without the use of Rock inhibitor (Y-27632). The described method for a fully defined xeno-free culture system for hPSC paved the way for the development of modern cell and #advancedtherapies as well as drug development and discovery.
