Attachment theory is getting a lot of consideration today because it speaks to our deepest fears that we are not paying enough attention to our infants and children. Children need caring adults to hold, watch, and interact with them on a daily basis, in order for them to learn how to develop healthy, enjoyable relationships. Mary Ainsworth, a Canadian/American developmental psychologist, demonstrated through her research, that children develop attachment “styles” and these attachment “styles” become a template for all our intimate relationships. Subsequent research has confirmed that the attachment styles developed in the first two years of life, powerfully affect a child’s confidence, self-esteem, and quality of intimate relationships, and that these attachment styles are resistant to change. October is ADHD Awareness Month 🌟 This month is dedicated to raising awareness about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) which affects 5-8% of children and 4-7% of teens. ADHD is more than just difficulty paying attention—it’s a complex neurodevelopmental condition that impacts emotional regulation, organization, and behavior. For parents and educators, managing ADHD requires understanding, patience, and the right tools. Children with ADHD respond well to structured environments, clear instructions, and external reminders such as timers and visual aids. They thrive in settings that are engaging, organized, and allow for movement. It's #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth, and we want to highlight some great resources on this topic as it relates to the mental health of children and families. Childhood cancer profoundly impacts not only the young patients but their entire families. Survivors often face chronic health issues and long-term emotional effects, with many experiencing psychological distress. Family members also endure significant emotional, social, and financial strains. “An estimated two-thirds of childhood cancer survivors will have at least one chronic or long-term side effect from their cancer treatment… approximately 10-30% of survivors or family members will have long-term severe psychological distress.” We've created 2 resources for you on this topic. 1.
