Healthspan refers to the period in an individual's life characterized by good health and well-being, free from chronic diseases and debilitating conditions. It's not solely about the number of years one lives but about the quality of life experienced during those years. It's a vital aspect of healthcare that focuses on preventive measures and wellness, rather than just the treatment of illnesses. We believe helping every employee in America tap into 9 additional healthy and happy years of life is the ultimate source of productivity. As we look forward in 2024, both employees and employers face the reality of increasing health care costs. Reports suggest a significant rise in expenses per employee. The question is, how can we navigate this challenging landscape effectively? Key Areas of Focus: 🧠 Mental Health: The aftermath of COVID-19 has seen a surge in mental health concerns. Employers are expected to enhance mental health support, increasing access and reducing cost barriers. 💊 Pharmacy Costs: A notable increase in health care dollars spent on pharmacy is driving employers to seek transparency in pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) practices. 🎗️ Cancer Treatment: Delayed screenings during the pandemic may lead to more advanced cancer cases. Employers are looking at comprehensive cancer care strategies. 🚑 Health Care Delivery: The pandemic has reshaped the landscape of health care delivery, with a shift towards virtual health opportunities and on-site clinics. The goal? To focus on improving employee health outcomes and reducing unnecessary services, emphasizing prevention, and primary care. 💡 Employers are also encouraged to educate their workforce on maximizing benefits, helping them stretch their hard-earned dollars. Physical health has worsened since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which can have detrimental effects on employers. That's according to Gallup survey results released on December 14, 2023 showing that workers with poor physical health and well-being generally suffer much higher levels of unplanned absenteeism and healthcare utilization (and associated costs) than their counterparts. What can employers do? A good start would be to focus on benefits programs that address risk factors and help influence how an employee can show up and maintain a healthy lifestyle both in and out of the office. https://lnkd.in/giPwcxnW #PhysicalHealth #EmployerHealth #Wellbeing #Absenteeism #HealthcareUtilization #SocialDeterminantsOfWork

Healthspan is more than just a philosophy for us—it’s the central motivator for everything we do. Essentially, a person’s healthspan is the period in their life when they’re able to enjoy good health, with no debilitating conditions or chronic ailments to manage. Unlike lifespan, which measures only years lived, healthspan underscores the quality of life experienced within those years. It represents a shift in healthcare philosophy towards proactive prevention and holistic wellness, rather than reactive symptom management. There are a lot of things the American healthcare system could be doing to increase people’s healthspans. And in fact, there are plenty of providers out there making great strides in that direction, through better prevention, early detection, and more comprehensive primary care. We’ve spent the last few years getting to know some of these providers, and what we’re seeing is hopeful.
