Millwork Carpenter | Field Leadership Coaching | Fighter for the Skilled Trades | People-First & Technology-Second Approach
This is the topic where few are brave enough to tread. Because it exposes the truth. The reality is that behind every, PM or Superintendent, etc there are many, many trades people doing the building, the actual work that concludes with an occupable space. Despite all of the apps, computer programs, and technology we are still reliant on human beings to get the job done. These are not jobs that can be easily filled, in this business experience counts for a lot because of all of the variables, weather, materials, challenges, etc. It is time to invest into these people, to provide the training, resources, benefits and pay that is deserved and will draw in the young, smart, quality people that we need while allowing them to be committed to a career in the trades.
And that’s just North America 🫠👇 The numbers alone are shocking but it gets worse when you consider the QUALITY of workers coming into the market. Not that they are bad or lazy people but they are starting from little to no experience, compared to those that are leaving. Simply put, one new apprentice entering the industry does not equal one experienced journeyman retiring - so on a qualitative scale the disparity is even greater. The good news? Infrastructure has to get built and someone has to do it. It won’t be easy but this will open up huge opportunities for those that know how to build and want to put in the work to solve these problems. I’m in 100%... who’s with me!? ⬇️ #construction #constructionindustry #constructionlife #constructionworker #constructionsite #constructionmanagement #contractor #subcontractor

🛠️👷📚 Safety. Professionalism. Education. These are the first words you’ll notice on the ElevatorInfo website, because they are the characteristics that set International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) elevator constructors apart from the rest. Safety is always at the top of the list. 📆🛗 Each year on April 28th, the IUEC and signatory employers in the elevator industry observe Safety Stand-Down Day. Locals across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Guam hold safety meetings and toolbox talks, and send out safety messages. In solidarity, Safety Stand-Down Day takes place on the same day as Workers Memorial Day in the United States and the National Day of Mourning in Canada, as well as World Day for Safety and Health and the International Commemoration Day for the Dead and Injured across the globe. ⚠️ This year’s Safety Stand-Down messages focused on three major topics: avoiding distractions, improving behavioral safety, and the importance of job planning / creating a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) before beginning work. 💬In the words of IUEC General President Frank Christensen, “Elevator constructors are always going to encounter hazards in their work. But when job planning is done properly and thoroughly, it will reduce accidents, improve productivity, encourage engagement, increase behavioral safety, and create a safer jobsite overall.” ✅ We encourage you to visit the 2024 IUEC Safety Stand-Down Page to view this year’s messages from President Christensen, National Elevator Industry Educational Program, Canadian Elevator Industry Educational Program (CEIEP), and IUEC signatory employers including Mitsubishi, Otis Elevator Co., TK Elevator, KONE, Schindler Elevator Corporation (U.S.), and Stanley Elevator. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/g26VQmn3 #safety #elevatorconstructor #elevatortech #elevatorinfo #elevatorindustry #elevatormechanic #elevatortechnician #elevatorsafety #elevatorapprenticeship #elevatorcareer #IUEC #NEIEP #CEIEP #OSHA

As we celebrate Construction Career Month, we recognize that opportunities in this dynamic industry are unlocked by those who prioritize attention to detail and take the initiative. This proactive mindset paves the way for projects to be completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards, driving success and fostering growth for everyone involved. Katie Smith, our Florida Preconstruction Manager, highlights this essential approach: "Getting ahead of deadlines, ensuring everything is thoroughly planned, and providing comprehensive information before the construction kick-off can save everyone a lot of headaches down the road. The more you can anticipate and prepare for, the smoother the project runs." At Schaefer, we understand that thoughtful planning and meticulous attention to detail are fundamental to capitalizing on opportunities in construction. As we honor Construction Career Month, we encourage those interested in the field to embrace proactive practices from the very beginning. From coordinating with subcontractors to addressing design questions before they escalate, anticipating potential challenges sets the entire team up for success. This mindset not only leads to project excellence but also cultivates rewarding careers within the construction industry. #SGC70 #CareersinConstruction #BuildingConfidence #BuildingtheFuture

Just one video this week as the trainee course completed the third week with BA. This week they have mainly been completing BA wears in a variety of situations ahead of assessment next week. However we have spent some time looking at fire behaviour including this session discussing trench effect, and the ferocity of flames when the trench is enclosed. Understanding how fire behaves is a crucial skill for firefighters allowing them to predict development and select the best approach to extinguishing.
