We support people to achieve personal goals and make positive lasting change in their lives.

About us

We believe that we all need support at different times in our lives. For too many people a lack of opportunities is a barrier to reaching their full potential. We want to change that. Our services offer everyone an equal chance to gain experience, skills and confidence, achieve personal goals and reach a brighter future. For one person that could be building the self-confidence to use public transport alone, for someone else it could be earning the qualifications they need to secure their first job. Every day we support people in their next steps to live an independent and fulfilling life.

We're kicking off our Tuesday with a shout-out from First Minister John Swinney 😮 In a new video from his visit to our FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland warehouse, the First Minister says "I've seen the fruits of that at Move On... because what they're doing is supporting young people to overcome some of their challenges, make the journey into the labour market, and to make a contribution to our society." The video also features a special interview with Rebekah, who started as a warehouse volunteer back in 2020, then grabbed the opportunity to sign up for our training and paid work placements. Rebekah is now employed as a staff member, as part of the team delivering our employability services. Read Rebekah's story on our website: https://lnkd.in/e3qs8XS5 We're honoured that our services have been highlighted as a member of the Inspiring Scotland Our Future Now portfolio of charities.

I do love a challenge, so have signed up for a triathlon on the 5th September at the NatWest Group headquarters in Gogarburn to help raise money for Move On I went for my first run today (yes agree, too little too late!) with my not so wee 11yr old, she gave me some wise counsel “Doesn’t matter how long it takes, I’m just proud of you for doing it” 🥹❤️ So if you’d like to donate, any amount if very welcome then do so on the link below https://lnkd.in/ePnJpwpz I’ll be joined by my equally misguided colleagues Zoey Wang Graeme McGuinnity Lynsey Mitchell Tega Desi Priyanka Agrawal #charity #fundraising

"I've had a few personal troubles myself in the past, and… being able to give up a wee bit of free time… it's good for me, it's been good for Euan, I've been really enjoying it, I think it's beneficial for the both of us." In our new video, we chat to Euan and Jordan, a mentor match in Glasgow. Both share why they got involved with our mentoring service, and how a couple of hours a week is making an impact on their lives. If you're interested in mentoring - either as a volunteer or for a young person - you can find out more on our website: https://lnkd.in/e6jFn2zb

Making a wider social impact is a key driver of the Hub programme and today, with the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, we heard from the 10 charities across Scotland making this happen through the Hub Community Foundation's Building Brighter Futures Fund with Inspiring Scotland. So many inspiring stories of the real difference being made to support young people across the country with qualifications, skills, confidence and experience, helping tackle poverty and isolation. Well done to all the charities showcasing their amazing outcomes for young people. It was particularly good to catch up with Move On & Grassmarket Community Project - our regional charities - making connections to work closer together in the future.

Back in September 2023, The Trades House of Glasgow awarded Move On with £623 to support volunteer costs at our FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland warehouse. Our volunteers are at the heart of our Glasgow social enterprise, supporting our service to sort and distribute surplus food to feed people living in poverty. We also think it's important to give back to our volunteers for their hard work, supporting people to: • Achieve skills and qualifications • Gain practical work experience • Increase their self-confidence • Reduce social isolation Feedback from recent volunteers include: "On top of the work experience I've gained, FareShare has built my confidence and employability skills as I've attended mock interviews and been supported by all the staff." & "FareShare has helped me a lot. I have improved my confidence, as well as my English. I have also achieved my forklift license." Thank you to The Trades House of Glasgow for their generous support.
