Food insecurity among children can have profound effects on their physical and mental health and future success. 📚💪 👶 For young kids, inadequate nutrition can lead to delayed development. Research shows a link between food insecurity and chronic illnesses like asthma and anemia, along with behavioral issues such as hyperactivity, anxiety, and aggression in school-age kids. At Novi, we believe in making a difference! We collaborate with local charities, churches, and companies to provide nutritious meals to needy communities. A child’s health, wellbeing and life chances are shaped by their circumstances and early life experiences and, as charities working to support babies, children and young people, we’ve urged politicians to act on worsening child health outcomes. As part of the Children’s Charities Coalition with Action for Children, Barnardo's, NSPCC and The Children's Society, we welcome Labour’s focus on tackling child health inequality and the recognition that a child’s wellbeing is shaped by their mental health as well as their physical health. We want all political parties and leaders, including Labour, to commit to an ambitious cross-government strategy and outcomes framework that will drive improvements for babies, children and young people across all areas of their lives. In the 2022-2023 school year, a record-breaking 119,300 students were homeless in New York City (New York Times, 2023). This statistic is staggering. For more than 100,000 children in New York City, food, shelter, and security were not given circumstances of life. Although there is no easy fix to a crisis as significant as this, there are a number of organizations at the forefront of providing exceptional, holistic care - where youth experiencing homelessness have a place to go to not only have their basic needs met, but also have an opportunity to live fulfilled lives. That's why I've started a fundraiser for Covenant House - an organization dedicated to providing safe shelter and loving care for youth facing homelessness. Covenant House provides resources such as job training, education opportunities, legal aid, health care, and mental health counseling to support young people in achieving their goals.
