Great! The Nature Conservancy.. A unified call to action is urgently needed to achieve the goal of #NaturePositive by 2030. To help secure a #NaturePositive world this decade, governments must urgently implement their ten Leaders' Pledge for Nature commitments. ■But action is needed accross society; from businesses, financial institutions, cities, sub-national governments, indigenous people, youth, communities and individuals. The Race Is On to secure a #NaturePositive world, in support of climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals. A transformative action for an equitable, #NaturePositive and #CarbonNeutral world. With less than 100 days until the UN Biodiversity #COP16, the Business for Nature coalition has published a business statement outlining five high-level policy recommendations for governments to accelerate the implementation of the #BiodiversityPlan to drive corporate #Nature action. The statement, endorsed by 130 businesses and financial institutions with combined revenues of $1.1 trillion, calls on governments to adopt policies to: 🌎 Make sure business and finance protect nature and restore degraded ecosystems 🌎 Ensure sustainable resource use and management to reduce negative environmental impacts 🌎 Value and embed nature in decision-making and disclosure 🌎 Align all financial flows to transition to a nature-positive, net zero and equitable economy 🌎 Adopt or strengthen ambitious global agreements to address key nature loss challenges It’s time for governments to create an enabling regulatory framework and put nature at the heart of decision making. 🔗 Find out more: https://nature.ly/468fxEB

https://lnkd.in/eE9cMczs According to the UNFCC Climate Champions, “investment by G20 economies in #naturebasedsolutions needs to double by mid-century to help prevent an environmental crisis.”* Next week UNEP convenes a conference on #sustainablefinance for Latin America.  As a nature-based solution based in Mexico, we applaud both the sentiment and the conference.    Sometimes we hear people say that it’s difficult to invest in nature-based solutions because they might lack permanence, could be difficult to measure, or just don’t feel ‘technical’ enough. Our view is simple.  #nature is proven. It's evolved to perfection over millennia. 🍃 Our solution stands out for its unique ability to achieve high-permanence #carbonremoval through the power of #biomineralisation    🐝 Nature-based solutions like ours also deliver improvements in #biodiversity and #soilhealth 📏 We are developing a robust, direct #measurement methodology to quantify the carbon and biodiversity impacts of our solution. In preparation for this year's G20 Leaders' Summit, scheduled for 18 and 19 November in Brazil, the Global Solutions Summit took place last May in Berlin, Germany. This is an international conference aimed at addressing key policy challenges for the G20 with the aim of making expert-based policy recommendations. On behalf of #PwC, I attended the conference and wrote a paper on how nature-based carbon credits and debt-for-nature swaps can be part of a climate agenda for the South. That paper has now been published on: https://lnkd.in/eJRxMA52 The paper argues that the G20 could play a leading and facilitating role in several ways in scaling up the voluntary carbon market, increasing the use of debt-for-nature swaps to give developing countries space to invest in their climate and nature resilience, and could shape mechanisms to enable the use of nature-based carbon credits in debt-for-nature swaps. In line with this paper, last June I wrote an op-ed in the Dutch newspaper Trouw on how debt-for-nature swaps can be used to relieve developing countries investing in climate and nature. This is extra relevant now that the new Dutch cabinet plans to structurally cut €2.4 billion a year from development aid. https://lnkd.in/eG-tQRA8
